The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 Could Be Released in Late 2026

by James Smith

The Walking Dead: Dead City has been met with strong critical acclaim and has appealed to old and new fans of the franchise. Soon after the last season dropped, it was renewed for a third, and there could potentially be many more to come in the future.
Dead City centres on two fan-favourite characters from the original series in Maggie and Negan, and it has been interesting to see them in a completely different setting.

Maybe the Best Current Entry in The Walking Dead Franchise

It’s hard to think of a television series that has expanded into different media as much as the Walking Dead has, with countless ways for people to discover the series across a range of platforms.

It was one of the most prominent series to tap into the booming iGaming industry, with the casino at Paddy Power offering three Walking Dead-themed games for players to choose from. These help people discover the series and its characters for the first time, and may incentivise them to watch the television offerings.

Aside from games, there have been countless spinoffs as well. The beauty of the apocalyptic world of the series is that it can be shown from various perspectives and settings, with viewers always getting something fresh. After the flagship show ended, Dead City was one of three spinoffs. It’s arguably the strongest of all of them, with a rating of 71 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s no surprise that AMC are keen to release more episodes, with plenty of storylines to explore.

What Happened at the End of Season 2?

The main driving narrative behind Dead City was Maggie’s search for Hershel, leading her and Negan to find themselves in a Manhattan ravaged by the dead and various clans. In the second season, Negan rose to power in one of the gangs and nearly ended up getting killed by Maggie, but the two once again decided to settle their differences. It ended with them planning to build a better future for the city, but the various antagonists they’ve met may have something to say about that.

Not much is known about Season 3 yet, but according to a report from Screen Rant, Maggie’s sister, Beth, is set to return. Emily Kinney and Lauren Cohan have been pictured on set together, and it’s likely that this will be part of a flashback scene. Fans are particularly pleased about this revelation, as many people feel that Beth’s death in the main series was a huge mistake.

There aren’t any other confirmed returns of past characters from the main series, as Dead City has thus far preferred to develop fresh introductions to the franchise. However, it would be great to see some faces from the original, perhaps coming to the rescue when the main characters need them most.

There has been a two-year gap between seasons of Dead City so far, but some reports suggest that the third season may come slightly earlier. Indeed, it may drop towards the end of 2026 or early 2027, rather than the usual May/June timeframe of past seasons.
