‘Eleven Days, Eleven Nights 2’ 4K UHD Review (88 Films)
Stars: Kristine Rose, James Jackson, Ruth Collins, Frederick Lewis, Maurice Dupré, Kristin Cuadraro, Laura Gemser | Written by Rossella Drudi | Directed by Joe D’Amato

By the late 1980s, Italy’s once-booming exploitation scene was running out of steam. The glory days of grindhouse imports and sleazy genre gold were fading fast, but Joe D’Amato wasn’t about to let the party end without a fight. In 1987 he delivered Eleven Days, Eleven Nights, and four years later he doubled down with a sequel, keeping the industry afloat just a little longer. Meanwhile, 88 Films continue their streak as one of the most dependable boutique labels on the market. They’ve dropped some of my favourite physical releases of the year, and now they’re back with a fresh upgrade: a 4K Ultra HD edition of D’Amato’s Eleven Days, Eleven Nights 2. Another deep-cut slice of Italian cinema given the premium treatment it probably never expected – but absolutely deserves.
A young woman named Sarah (Kristine Rose) has to act as an executor for the will of her ex-lover Lionel Durrington (James Jackson). To ensure that the heir is honourable and worthy she must work her way through all them to decide who the fortune must go to. But as she meets and sleeps with each one, she uncovers dark family secrets.
There’s definitely plenty of exploitation on show here, but that’s not all this film has going for it. Beneath the sleaze sits a surprisingly engaging story, some striking cinematography, and a genuinely enjoyable soundtrack. Kristine Rose, Laura Gemser, and Ruth Collins also turn in strong performances, giving the whole thing far more charm and personality than you’d ever expect from a film with this reputation.
88 Films have transferred Eleven Days, Eleven Nights 2 to 4K UltraHD and Blu-ray in 2160p and 1080p, respectively and is presented in the original 1.66:1 aspect ratio. There are two audio tracks to choose from – there is the English 2.0 LPCM Stereo and the Italian 2.0 LPCM Mono with newly translated English subtitles. 88 Films always gets the best possible print for their releases, which means this release comes from a brand new 4K remaster taken from the original negatives. The film looks and sounds stunning, and fans of this genre are going to be thrilled with the quality of this release. In addition to a wonderful 4k restoration, 88 Films added some great bonus features, including:
Special Features:
- Audio Commentary by Italian Cinema Experts Eugenio Ercolani and Nanni Cobretti
- Filmirage: From Dawn Till Dusk – An Interview with Dubbing Director Mark Thompson Ashworth
- Seven Notes, Eleven Nights – An Interview with Composer Piero Motanari
- Eros in the Plastic Age – An Interview with Music Historian Pierpaolo De Sanctis
- Italian Opening and Closing titles
As if the commentary, interviews and bonus Italian titles weren’t enough, 88 Films’ release includes a rigid slipcase with art by Sean Longmore and a deluxe booklet with notes from Calum Waddell and Rachel Nisbet.
***** 5/5
