‘Relay’ Blu-ray Review

Director David Mackenzie has long proven his skill for crafting gripping, character-driven thrillers – just look at 2016’s Hell or High Water for evidence. His latest effort, Relay, continues that streak, delivering tension and atmosphere in equal measure. The film features a strong turn from Sam Worthington (Avatar, Hacksaw Ridge, Clash of the Titans), who adds real weight to the story’s intensity.
After earning attention on the festival circuit and completing its theatrical run, Relay is now ready to reach audiences at home. The Blu-ray release is just around the corner — and it’s coming in hot.
In RELAY, Riz Ahmed plays a world class “fixer” who specializes in brokering lucrative payoffs between corrupt corporations and the individuals who threaten their ruin. He keeps his identity a secret through meticulous planning and always follows an exacting set of rules. But when a message arrives one day from a potential client (Lily James), needing his protection just to stay alive, the rules quickly start to change.
Relay is not a slow-burn thriller! From the opening scene to the closing credits, this film is a thrill ride. The script by Justin Piasecki is so well-crafted, and the performances are truly must-see. Riz Ahmed and Lily James are spectacular. Mackenzie weaves an exciting and entertaining tale that you will watch and rewatch!
Relay has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and presented in a 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, and also an English audio description in Dolby Digital 2.0. There are also English subtitles.
Sadly, there are no bonus features to be found on this disc, which is a real shame. I would have enjoyed an audio commentary, behind-the-scenes documentary, interviews, something. Just some simple bonus feature would take this great movie’s Blu-ray release to a spectacular one! But sadly this is a bare bones disc.
If you enjoy thrillers or David Mackenzie’s previous film Hell or High Water, this release of Relay on Blu-ray is an absolute must-see.
