‘Friendship’ Blu-ray Review
Stars: Tim Robinson, Paul Rudd, Kate Mara, Jack Dylan Grazer, Rick Worthy, Whitmer Thomas, Daniel London, Eric Rahill | Written and Directed by Andrew DeYoung

Tim Robinson burst on the TV scene as a writer and performer on Saturday Night Live from 2012 to 2016. After his time on SNL he co-created, co-wrote, and starred in the comedy series Detroiters (2017–2018). Most recently, in 2024, he appeared in the dark comedy Friendship alongside the iconic Paul Rudd.
Suburban dad Craig falls hard for his charismatic new neighbour, as Craig’s attempts to make an adult male friend threaten to ruin both of their lives.
Friendship really feels like it is trying to tap into The Cable Guy audience. Now, let’s be honest, that film is legendary, and those are big shoes to try to fill! Whilst Friendship features some amusing scenes, the film itself struggles to come together as a whole and be hilarious throughout. Tim Robinson’s reactions and facial expressions are very funny, and carry a lot of the film, but I felt that Paul Rudd was criminally underused in this film.
Friendship has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 1.66:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. There is also the option for subtitles in English and Spanish. This Blu-ray transfer is tremendous – the picture is crisp and clean, and the audio is clear. There are no signs of digital artefacts or audio anomalies. In addition to a good-looking digital transfer, this Blu-ray has additional bonus features, including:
Special Features:
- Audio commentary by Andrew DeYoung, Andy Rydzewski, and Conner O’Malley
- Deleted and Extended scenes
- “Men Talking In The Dark” extended Q&A with Tim Robinson, Paul Rudd, Andrew DeYoung, and Eric Rahill.
- 6 Collectable postcards with behind-the-scenes photography
I really wanted to love this film. And while I was mildly entertained, I feel it doesn’t quite live up to its potential. I appreciate that this Blu-ray release has included the additional scenes and the Q&A, and the audio commentary, which do give this Blu-ray more value, but it’s not for me unfortunately.
