‘WWE Raw’ Review (Jan 27th 2025)
Welcome to this review of this past Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, right here on Nerdly! Let’s see what went down on this week’s Netflix-broadcast show!
Match #1: World Tag Team Championship – The War Raiders def. “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio & JD McDonagh
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
In an effort to regain gold for The Judgment Day, “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh challenged World Tag Team Champions The War Raiders. McDonagh nearly took himself out of the match after a jaw-dropping moonsault that resulted in his head hitting the announce table. The War Raiders focused on McDonagh’s neck as Erik delivered a full nelson neckbreaker that left McDonagh reeling. McDonagh survived and landed a superb top-rope move that nearly won the match. Carlito made his way to ringside in an attempt to help The Judgment Day, but despite a frog splash from Mysterio to Erik, they could not win the gold. The War Raiders executed the War Machine on Mysterio to retain their title.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #2: Rey Mysterio def. Xavier Woods
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Xavier Woods was expecting to have his family in the front row at ringside when he faced Rey Mysterio, but his family was absent. With Woods in control, his family eventually appeared alongside Lil Yachty while sporting New Day Sucks t-shirts. The humiliation caused Woods to lose his focus, and Mysterio landed a 619 to win the match.
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #3: Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez def. Bianca Belair & Naomi
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Raquel Rodriguez planted her opposition as she and Liv Morgan claimed the upper hand on Bianca Belair and Naomi. Morgan went for Oblivion but was caught by Belair, who connected with a huge K.O.D. However, “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio appeared to negate what likely would have been a win for Belair and Naomi. Rodriguez took out Naomi with a Tejana Bomb on the apron to allow Morgan to pin Naomi.
My Score: 3 out of 5
Match #4: Drew McIntyre def. Sami Zayn
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Sami Zayn looked to finally defeat Drew McIntyre in a one-on-one bout before the Royal Rumble this Saturday. McIntyre went for a Claymore Kick, but Zayn leaped out of the way, leaving The Scottish Warrior with lumbar pain. McIntyre eventually recovered, issuing a savage beating to Zayn at ringside that left Zayn barely able to get back into the ring before the 10-count. Zayn connected with a Blue Thunder Bomb and attempted the Helluva Kick, but McIntyre countered by putting his feet on the ropes to once again defeat Zayn.
My Score: 3 out of 5
Final Verdict: 2.5/5
This was one of those “building” episodes, where more time was spent on Royal Rumble-related promos and announcements that the in-ring action faltered. Considerably. In fact, having only 4 matches felt like a massive cop-out to me. Being on Netflix should’ve meant MORE wrestling not less! I get it, there’s a lot more freedom with time and content but it does seem like the WWE is still trying to figure out how the new format works and in the meantime we get less-than-stellar shows like this week’s episode.
