‘WWE Raw’ Review (Sep 9th 2024)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s show!

Match #1: Street Fight – The Wyatt Sicks def. American Made

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

With Uncle Howdy looking on from his rocking chair, a vicious Eight-Person Mixed Tag Team Street Fight pitting The Wyatt Sicks against Chad Gable, The Creed Brothers and Ivy Nile brought chaos in every direction. In the final moments of a match incorporating trash cans, tables, Kendo sticks, the Raw announce table, steel chairs, a fire extinguisher, steel steps. and even a ripped-loose ringside barricade, Uncle Howdy got involved in the action with a well-placed Sister Abigail and paved the way for Dexter Lumis to finish things off with an aerial attack from the top rope.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #2: WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship – Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill def. The Unholy Union

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In the final moments of an explosive matchup, Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill worked together with perfect tag team precision to drive Alba Fyre into the canvas to pick up the pin and successfully defend their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship against former titleholders The Unholy Union.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #3: Dominik Mysterio def. Dragon Lee

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

When a ringside brawl between The Judgment Day and The LWO creating a chaotic distraction, Liv Morgan used the opportunity to attack Dragon Lee’s leg and set up “Dirty” Dom to pick up the victory with a 619/flog splash combination.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #4: Natalya, Lyra Valkyria & Zelina Vega def. Pure Fusion Collective

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In front of her hometown crowd of Calgary, Natalya emerged as the surprise tag team partner of Lyra Valkyria and Zelina Vega against Pure Fusion Collective in a Six-Woman Tag Team Match. In the height of the action, The Queen of Harts locked in the family Sharpshooter to make Zoey Stark tap-out as her two partners locked in Sonya Deville and Shayna Baszler in submissions as well.

My Score: 1.5 out of 5

Match #5: Rey Mysterio def. Finn Bálor (DQ)

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

With both The LWO and The Judgment Day barred from ringside, Finn Bálor. refused to release Rey Mysterio’s leg as he punished his opponent’s knee. As a result, the official was forced to call for the bell.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #6: Intercontinental Title No. 1 Contender’s Tournament – Jey Uso def. Braun Strowman, Ilja Dragunov and Pete Dunne

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Moments after “Big” Bronson Reed attacked Braun Strowman and put him through the announce table, Ilja Dragunov hit Pete Dunne with the H-Bomb and looked ready to pick up the win. Before he could, however, Jey Uso blasted The Dragon with the Super Kick and the Uso Splash to pick up the victory and win the Intercontinental Title No. 1 Contender’s Tournament. With the win, Uso earned the right to challenge Bron Breakker in his quest for his first singles title.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3/5

Another OK episode of Raw this week, even if  – once again – it felt like nothing much really mattered. In terms of matches, the opener was a good start though there was less wrestling and more “fighting” than many may enjoy; then we got a retread of the women’s tag match as if to put a distinctive full-stop on the title change (which was bullsh*t IMHO). Everything else was pretty much meh until the main event and, like a lot of tournaments in ANY wrestling promotion, it worked really well to deliver a satisfying conclusion to the episode.
