‘WWE Raw’ Review (Jun 17th 2024)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s show!

Match #1: Braun Strowman def. Chad Gable

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In a battle of David vs. Goliath, Chad Gable had the tough task of trying to take down Braun Strowman. Gable once again belittled his Alpha Academy members who were ringside, as he tried to clip the wings of Strowman. Gable had a good fight, but the might of Strowman was too much, as he hit a huge tilt-a-whirl powerslam to finish Gable.

My Score: 1.5 out of 5

Match #2: Money in the Bank Ladder Match Qualifier – IYO SKY def. Kiana James and Zelina Vega

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In a frenetic Triple Threat Match, IYO SKY qualified for the Money in the Bank Ladder Match by overcoming Zelina Vega and Kiana James. Vega hit an impressive 619 before Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan arrived wearing “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio’s vest. Morgan’s distraction took Vega out of the equation and allowed SKY to hit the Over the Moonsault on James to become the first woman to qualify.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #3: Carlito def. Dragon Lee

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Stemming from Carlito’s attack on Dragon Lee before WrestleMania XL, these two squared off in an intense grudge match. Once again, Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan made her presence felt until Zelina Vega and the rest of The LWO got into the fray as well. JD McDonagh took advantage of the distraction, hitting Lee and allowing Carlito to land the Backstabber to gain the victory.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #4: Kayden Carter & Katana Chance def. Damage CTRL

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Kairi Sane and Dakota Kai were rolling until Lyra Valkyria came to the ring to assist Kayden Carter and Katana Chance. The distraction proved vital, as it allowed Carter and Chance to hit the After Party for the win.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #5: Sheamus def. Bron Breakker (DQ)

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In a certified banger, Sheamus took on Bron Breakker as Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn was at ringside to oversee the match. Sheamus took down Breakker with a White Noise and a rolling senton, but Breakker was able to fight back. Breakker sent Sheamus tumbling to the outside before dominating him with a huge leap from the ring as they both went sprawling onto the announce table. The Celtic Warrior and Breakker traded blows as Sheamus told Breakker to bring it on. Breakker tried executing a huge top-rope maneuver, but he slipped, allowing Sheamus to hit a White Noise. Sheamus electrified the WWE Universe with 10 Beats of the Bodhran before calling for the Brogue, but he was attacked by Ludwig Kaiser for the disqualification win. After the match, Breakker Speared Sheamus and Kaiser.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #6: Money in the Bank Ladder Match Qualifier – Jey Uso def. Finn Bálor and Rey Mysterio

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Jey Uso is one step closer to taking the “yeetcase” home as he defeated Finn Bálor and Rey Mysterio in a Triple Threat Match to qualify for the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. Just as Mysterio was about to hit the 619, Bálor clotheslined the WWE Hall of Famer, leaving both men down. Mysterio eventually hit the 619 on Bálor, followed by one to Uso, and then one to both of his opponents. Just as The Master of the 619 was about to seal the win, “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio and the rest of The Judgment Day attacked the WWE Hall of Famer. Braun Strowman came out to even the odds and chased The Judgment Day out of the arena. After the fracas, Bálor hit the Coup de Grace on Mysterio before Uso flew out of nowhere to hit the Uso Splash on Bálor to earn entry into the Money in the Bank Ladder Match.

My Score: 3 out of 5

News of the Night:

  1. Seth Rollins made his return to Raw, opening the show
  2. Otis finally stood up to Chad Gable
  3. Bron Breakker and Sheamus challenged Sami Zayn to a title match
  4. Drew McIntyre quit WWE
  5. The Wyatt 6 made their Raw debut, demolishing wrestlers and crew alike in Gorilla.

Final Verdict: 3/5

Let’s not kid anyone, the first two-thirds of this week’s Raw was weak. We got some fire promos from Rollins, Priest and McIntyre this week but the wrestling, until the Sheamus/Breakker match wasn’t up to par with them. Once the final third of the show kicked in we did get some satisfying wrestling that took things up a notch, just in time for THAT ending. Come on… No one is going to be talking about Drew McIntyre quitting, Otis standing up to Chad Gable, no, they’re going to be and ARE talking about is the emergence of the Wyatt 6 and the decimation they laid backstage. It was quite the homage to Bray Wyatt and probably was the best introduction the new faction could’ve possibly had. They just need to keep up the momentum and back it up with in-ring action too now!
