by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s show!

Match #1: Becky Lynch def. Liv Morgan

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In the final moment of an absolutely explosive showdown, Liv Morgan hit Oblivion on Becky Lynch. Before she could attempt a pin, however, The Man managed to roll out of the ring. Moments later, Lynch caught her opponent with off the second rope and finished her with the Manhandle Slam.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #2: Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell def. Ivy Nile & Maxxine Dupri

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In a stunning moment during their tag team match, Candice LeRae suddenly cornered Maxxine Dupri and began to openly belittle her with what appeared to be highly personal remarks. Eventually, Dupri couldn’t take anymore and began to leave, only to walk right into the boot of a confused Indi Hartwell to end the match.

My Score: 1.5 out of 5

Match #3: WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Match – The Kabuki Warriors def. Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After interference for Dakota Kai, Asuka leveled Shayna Baszler with an explosive kick before Kairi Sane finished of The Submission Magician off with the Insane Elbow to retain their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #4: Damian Priest def. R-Truth

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In the final moments of his matchup against an irate Damian Priest, R-Truth dove off the top rope and into #DIY’s brawl with The Judgment Day to take out everybody at ringside. Señor Money in the Bank quickly capitalized on this and hit Truth with South of Heaven for the victory.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #5: Gauntlet Match – Winner: Sami Zayn

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Match 1 – Ricochet def. JD McDonagh
After winning a battle on the top rope in a high-octane opening showdown by both competitors, Ricochet emerged victorious with the Shooting Star Press.

Match 2 – “Big” Bronson Reed def. Ricochet
The size and strength of the monstrous “Big” Bronson Reed proved to be too much for Ricochet as the gigantic Superstar grounded his high-flying opponent with the Tsunami.

Match 3 – Sami Zayn overcomes “Big” Bronson Reed
After escaping “Big” Bronson Reed’s shoulders, Sami Zayn hit an earth-shattering second rope Sunset Flip Powerbomb for the win.

Match 4 – Sami Zayn def. Shinsuke Nakamura
Despite “Big” Bronson Reed’s underhanded Tsunami after his match, Sami Zayn roared back to hit the Helluva Kick on the nefarious Shinsuke Nakamura for the victory.

Match 5 – Sami Zayn def. Chad Gable
In an incredible final battle of the Gauntlet Match, an injured Sami Zayn fought through the pain and countered Chad Gable’s ankle lock to pick up the three-count and win the right to challenge Intercontinental Champion Gunther at The Showcase of the Immortals.

My Score: 4 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3.5/5

This episode of Raw opened strong and closed stronger. Nothing in between really mattered in comparison to those two matches. Why can’t we get matches like that EVERY week, even better still every match be as good. I get it, this is “sports entertainment” but I always prefer it when the WWE leans into the sports part of that statement. I just hope Liv Morgan and Sami Zayn get something more (like a decent push) out of this week’s amazing performances!
