‘WWE Raw’ Review (Sept 11th 2023)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, right here on Nerdly… Let’s see what went down on this week’s show!

Match #1: Finn Bálor & Damian Priest def. Kevin Owens & Jey Uso

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In an impromptu tag team matchup, Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions Finn Bálor & Damian Priest battled reluctant partners Kevin Owens & Jey Uso. KO looked ready to hit the Stunner on Priest. Before he could, however, Señor Money in the Bank had the presence of mind to push Owens forward and move out of the way. When he did, Uso accidently hit his partner with a superkick and paved the way for Bálor to finish KO with the Coup de Grace. As the dust cleared, a frustrated Owens walked out ahead of “Main Event” Jey shaking his head.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #2: The Miz def. Akira Tozawa

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After LA Knight cost The Miz his match against Akira Tozawa several weeks ago, the intense A-Lister hit Tozawa with three Skull-Crushing Finales to erase the blemish on his record, earning a big win heading into his rematch against his charismatic adversary on SmackDown.

My Score: 0 out of 5

Match #3: Drew McIntyre def. Xavier Woods

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Following a seemingly accidental chair toss by Drew McIntyre and his subsequent issues with Kofi Kingston over the past several weeks, The New Day’s Xavier Woods failed to teach The Scottish Warrior a lesson when the former WWE Champion overcame his opponent with an earth-shattering Claymore Kick in an extremely hard-fought matchup.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #4: Shayna Baszler def. Chelsea Green

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Moments after Shayna Baszler scored a victory over WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Chelsea Green with her new move Exterminatous (her version of Ronda Rousey’s Piper’s Pit), Piper Niven climbed into the ring to battle The Submission Magician. During the brawl that followed, Zoey Stark charged down to the ring to get Baszler’s back and prompted Niven to leave.

My Score: 0 out of 5

Match #5: Tommaso Ciampa & Alpha Academy def. Imperium

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After brawling with Imperium earlier in the evening, Tommaso Ciampa locked Intercontinental Champion Gunther in the Sicilian Stretch and made him watch Giovanni Vinci tap out to Chad Gable’s ankle lock for the Six-Man Tag Team victory.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #6: Women’s World Title Match – Rhea Ripley def. Raquel Rodriguez

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In Rhea Ripley’s hard-fought Women’s World Title Match against Raquel Rodriguez, Nia Jax suddenly made an earth-shattering return to Raw to attack the challenger at ringside and pave the way for The Eradicator to pick up the victory with the Riptide. As the smoke cleared, Jax entered the ring and dismantled the Women’s World Champion, potentially signaling a change in the landscape.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3.5/5

Apart from the two squash matches, this week’s Raw was across the board one of the better episodes of the WWE flagship show we’ve had in quite a while. And we got the return of one of the company’s most controversial female competitors that drove the internet into a frenzy. It alone is worth watching that and then seeing the reaction! All in all, this was one hell of an improvement over last week’s output from the WWE’s two main brands.
