‘WWE Raw’ Review (Aug 28th 2023)
Welcome to this review of this past Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, right here on Nerdly… Let’s see what went down on this week’s show!
Match #1: Damian Priest def. Sami Zayn
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Thanks to surprise interference from JD McDonagh, Damian Priest overcame Sami Zayn with South of Heaven,. The win gave Señor Money in the Bank huge momentum en route to Zayn and Kevin Owens’ Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship defense against The Judgment Day at WWE Payback. Despite McDonagh’s help, an annoyed Priest shoved the interfering Superstar and stormed off. When Zayn and Owens launched a post-match counter-attack, Señor Money in the Bank refused to return to the ring to even the odd.
My Score: 3 out of 5
Match #2: The Viking Raiders def. The New Day
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
After Ivar threw Kofi Kingston into an observing Drew McIntyre and Matt Riddle at ringside, The Scottish Warrior snapped. In the bedlam that followed, The Scottish Warrior accidently hit Xavier Woods with a chair and brought about chaos that ended with The Viking Raiders picking up the victory with Ragnarok.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #3: Chad Gable def. Ludwig Kaiser
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Just when it looked as if Chad Gable would defeat the smarmy Ludwig Kaiser, Giovanni Vinci attacked The head of the Alpha Academy. In the aftermath, Imperium made a strong statement with a fierce 3-on-1 attack on Gable.
My Score: 3 out of 5
Match #4: Tommaso Ciampa def. Bronson Reed
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
In a explosive matchup that began even before the bell, Tommaso Ciampa overcame “Big” Bronson Reed with an athletic pinfall out of nowhere.
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #5: Falls Count Anywhere Match – Becky Lynch def. Zoey Stark
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
In an absolutely brutal Falls Count Anywhere Match that incorporated Kendo sticks, steel chairs, tables, and an interfering Trish Stratus who basically made the contest into a de facto 2-on-1 showdown, the action inevitably spread into the crowd. In the height of the action, Stark accidentally struck her protege and sent her crashing down through a table. Moments later, Lynch hurled Stark around and drove her through another table with an earth-shattering Manhandle Slam to pick up the three-count amid a sea of all-out chaos.
My Score: 3 out of 5
Final Verdict: 3/5
A decent, if unremarkable episode of Raw this week – not exactly a great lead-in to Payback this weekend but then it seems WWE are trying not to have too much “fun” after last week’s sombre news. At least there were squash matches on this card, even if there were a few too many promos – though you gotta love the Miz’s impression of LA Knight!
