Dota Pro Circuit 2023: Group Stage of the Berlin Major Ended
ESL One Berlin Major 2023 continues the 2023 season of the Dota Pro Circuit. It is the second Major tournament we have had this year. It will be roughly two months between the finals of two major events—we do not know how the teams are keeping up with such pressure. But yes, the Lima tournament ended on March 5, and we got the names of Berlin winners on May 7.
ESL One Berlin Major 2023: a brief overview
Like the first DPC Major, the tournament in Berlin is offline, held at the Velodrom. Organized by ESL, it started on April 26, with sponsorship from Intel, Predator, DHL, and Monster Energy. The talent for the broadcast was announced on April 20, and the broadcast included English, Russian, Ukrainian, Portuguese, and Spanish.
Initially, there were 18 teams from six regions:
- Western Europe and China had four teams each;
- Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia—three teams;
- North and South America—two teams each.
The players are fighting for a prize pool of $500,000 and 2700 DPC points distributed as follows:
- 1st place: $200,000 and 500 points;
- 2nd place: $100,000 and 450 points;
- 3rd place: $75,000 and 400 points;
- 4th place: $50,000 and 350 points;
- 5th and 6th places: $25,000 and 300 points;
- 7th and 8th places: $12,500 and 200 points.
Group Stage conclusions
The group stage of the Berlin Major ended on April, 30. It had a single round-robin format with two groups of 9 teams each fighting in Bo2 matches. The top six teams of each group proceeded to playoffs, the rest were eliminated. These players already lost their chance to gain a cash prize and DPC points:
- Invictus Gaming
- Team Spirit
- BetBoom Team
- Execration
- Xtreme Gaming
- TSM
- Team SMG
- beastcoast
- Shopify Rebellion
There are already some comments about the performance of the teams that left the tournament. For example, NS, a former Dota 2 player, and now a streamer and analyst, said the following about BetBoom Team:
“Surely they have to suspect that the “world’s best” normally move through the group stage in tournaments, at least.”
By the way, the group stage peaked at 325,000 viewers, according to Esports Charts, and, on average, matches had almost 200,000 fans watching them.
What to expect
For now, we are waiting for the upcoming playoff matches in a double-elimination bracket. All matches will be Bo3 except for the Grand Final which is traditionally Bo5. And then, we are in for Summer Regional League and Major. The last significant event before the International will make the players fight for 3500 precious DPC points. For them, DPC points are even more valuable than money itself because the 12 teams who gained the most, are automatically qualified for TI. Others will have to undergo last-chance regional qualifiers.
Dota Pro Circuit and bettors
Majors are always a significant event not just for fans who want to see how their favorites are playing but also for those who are willing to earn a bit on esports betting. Such tournaments determine the professional future of the team—for the season, at least. Therefore, players usually give it all during the match, making the game exciting and a bit unpredictable. The element of surprise gives good odds for bettors who welcome the chance of profiting.
However, the victory of the team one picked is not the only thing the bettor’s income depends on. The bookmaker’s rules, odds, stakes they take, and other specifics can significantly affect the sum of money that a lucky bettor can count on. But there are too many organizations and platforms to research them and make a good choice. This is why Esports Betting Bro is a good choice. This online portal offers betting guides, reviews, and ratings for all popular web bookmakers, so the user can quickly compare them and choose the most fitting one.
