‘AEW Dark: Elevation – Episode 111’ Review

by Phil Wheat

Welcome back to another review of AEW Dark: Elevation, which features only FOUR(!) matches this week and a show that only runs twenty-two(!) minutes. Once again we’ve got Elevation regulars Paul Wight and Matt Menard on commentary. So let’s get into the review!

Match #1: Maki Itoh def. Ashley D’Amboise

My Thoughts: Always good to see Ashley D’Amboise in an AEW ring and on top of that we get the legend that is Maki Itoh in this match too! If I’m honest this one felt a little “off” – which can often occur when styles clash or aren’t as compatible as they could be.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #2: Jericho Appreciation Society (Jake Hager, Matt Menard, and Angelo Parker) def. Mike Magnum, Jack Tomlinson, and Zack Clayton

My Thoughts: I’ve got to be honest, the JAS is getting really old now. And no disrespect to the trio involved in this match but whenever they’re together in a match or segment, it just feels like a total joke. Even worse when the match is much of a joke too.

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #3: Matt Hardy and Isiah Kassidy def. Brett Gosselin and Bobby Orlando

My Thoughts: This felt like something of a damp squib given what happened last week in regards to Matt Hardy, Isiah Kassidy and The Firm. Plus this was a squash match to boot. I’ve heard the AEW have filmed many matches that never made it to air. Maybe given the change in storylines, this should’ve been one of them?

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #4: Emi Sakura def. Mizuki

My Thoughts: I’ve really enjoyed seeing Emi Sakura appear on AEW’s main shows recently as she’s brought her hard-hitting style to the “main” women’s roster. And her Sakura has a great hard-hitting opponent in Mizuki. This was a great match but I did have one issue… This should’ve gone longer! The fact this episode of Elevation was only 22 minutes overall there could have been a lot more time given to this match to let the pair REALLy get to showcase a lot more of what they can do together!

My Score: 3 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2.5/5
