‘AEW: Rampage’ Review (Mar 30th 2023)

by Phil Wheat

It’s Monday so you know what that means, it’s time for our weekly review of AEW: Rampage! This week’s show features Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Jim Ross and Chris Jericho on commentary. Now let’s get to the review…

Match #1: Sammy Guevera def. Konesuke Takeshita

My Thoughts: When Sammy Guevara isn’t messing around with the JSA or p*ssing off fans with over-the-top affection to his wife Tay Melo on TV he CAN actually wrestle. And thankfully that’s what happened here, as Gueara and Takeshita really delivered a great opening match. I wouldn’t have had Takeshita lose, but as other have noted – he probably lost to push the Don Callis angle. Which I guess I can live with, if it means Takeshita gets to the next level in AEW.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #2: House of Black (Brodie King and Malakai Black) def. Best Friends (Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta)

My Thoughts: This one started out great but ran far too short. Interesting to see OC get beaten down by the House of Black as he tried to save the Best Friends from getting beat down. I didn’t expect HoB to be so dominant in this match at all. I guess this is the new Trios title feud then?!

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #3: Taya Valkyrie def. Marina Shafir

My Thoughts: Good to see Marina Shaifr embracing her for judo/MMA background even more in this match. Shafir still needs work in terms of selling and she telegraphs some of Valkyrie’s moves but that may have been more on Valkrie than Shafir. Shame this turned out to just be a squash match-come-angle for the Jade Cargill/Taya Valkyrie feud!

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #4: Juice Robinson def. Action Andretti

My Thoughts: This was a spot fest if ever there was one! Both fan put on one hell of a high-flying show, just a pity Juice Robinson kept ranting about Ricky Starks throughout the match – even saying Andretti was Starks at times. Stupid storytelling for the loss. This was exciting because it was a spot fest but it wasn’t a well thought out main event.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2.5/5
