‘AEW: Rampage’ Review (Feb 24th 2023)

by Phil Wheat

It’s Monday so you know what that means, it’s time for our weekly review of AEW: Rampage! This week’s show features Chris Jericho, Excalibur, Tony Schiavone and Jim Ross on commentary. Now let’s get to the review…

Match #1: Young Bucks def. Aussie Open

My Thoughts: After all the hoo-hah about Aussie Open not being signed by any company right now, it was great to see them appear on AEW programming again after their brief appearances alongside Will Ospreay and their entry into Wednesday’s Battle Royale. This match was a great start to this week’s Rampage, kicking things off in a hot style. One for pure wrestling fans that’s for sure… Which makes a pleasant change from the recent influx of “story” based action in AEW.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #2: Tony Storm def. Willow Nightingale

My Thoughts: Always love seeing Willow Nightingale in action, just a shame that this match was more about making Toni Storm look good – which meant Willow took more of a beating than I think we’ve seen from her so far in AEW. Hence why this match isn’t rated higher.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #3: Lance Archer def. Bryce Saturn

My Thoughts: Lance Archer FINALLY is back on AEW television and with Jake “The Snake” Roberts no less! This was a squash of the HIGHEST order as Archer demolished his jobber opponent!

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #4: Sammy Guverra def. Action Andretti

My Thoughts: This was a decent main event but the momentum Andretti had seemed to have halted thanks to poor booking – well, more kike to the fact he hasn’t been on TV! This was a fast-paced match and one that stayed just on the right side of being a spotfest, instead it was a well-fought high-flying match. Just a shame there were shenanigans involved at the end.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2.5/5
