100 Word Hits – Comic Reviews #10

by Guest

Welcome to the latest installment of our new column 100 Word Hits, in association with comics retailer The Unreality Store, in which Matthew De Monti brings us short, sharp reviews of the latest books to hit comic stores over the past month or so!

Love Everlasting #1

Written by Tom King | Art by Elsa Charretier

About a third of the way through Love Everlasting #1 it feels like King & Charretier are on a mission to bring back the Romance comics of 1960’s. Then things get a little weird….

  • 1950’s – Joan loves George who is currently seeing her bestie Marta. Marta goes off with Jack so Joan and George get married
  • 1970’s – Joan fancies singer Kit but recalls she was married to George
  • 1890’s – Chad and Bill fight over Joan who rides off to find George, or Kit. She meets a masked stranger who shoots her and says ‘Love Is Everlasting’

Intriguing.

Promethee 13:13 #2

Written by Andy Diggle | Art by Shawn Martinborough

UFO abductee Darla Clemenceau has been kidnapped by a group of people who believe she holds the key to their survival of the coming apocalypse. Darla is less than convinced but her scepticism softens when they reveal she was impregnated with nanite technology when she was abducted. Trying to escape, Darla is knocked out and has a flashback to her abduction and possible future. Meanwhile the space shuttle Atlantis is pulled out of it’s orbit around the Earth and sucked into the hold of an alien ship!

Diggle is writing a blockbuster of a story, perfectly complemented by Martinborough’s art.
