‘AEW: Dark’ Review (Sep 13th 2022)

by Phil Wheat

Another week, another episode of AEW: Dark which is a SHORT five-match card… and let’s just say I’m loving the shorter shows. So let’s get right to it!

Match #1: Penelope Ford def. Alice Crowley

My Thoughts: Nice to see Penelope Ford in action once again and, as commentary pointed out, she looked rather more aggressive in this one than usual. This was pretty much a squash match for Ford, hopefully to build her numbers and get her back into the main event picture.

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #2: Darius Martin & Matt Sydal def. Cezar Bononi & Ryan Nemeth

My Thoughts: Another good outing for the team of Darius Martin & Matt Sydal, though I appreciated that this one went a LOT longer than their Elevation match this week! Cezar Bononi & Ryan Nemeth are the wrong kind of opponents for Martin and Sydal though…

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #3: Skye Blue & Queen Aminata def. Diamante & Emi Sakura w/Baliyan Akki

My Thoughts: Well that was unexpected. Going into this I did not expect Blue and Aminata to pick up the win – especially against Diamante and Emi Sakura. I know Blue won in Chicago as it was her hometown crowd but I’m now wondering if she’s at the start of a winning streak?

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #4: Danhausen def. Peter Avalon

My Thoughts: Hallelujah! We get Danhauen wrestling. In a full match, not just as part of interference in someone else’s match! Peter Avalon was a great foil for the very evil one and this “comedy” match actually felt like a breath of fresh air (especially in the current AEW climate!)

My Score: 4 out of 5

Match #5: Matt Hardy def. Angelico

My Thoughts: Sorry, but this match featured two guys I couldn’t care less about. Hardy is far from his prime and Angelico has never, for me, lived up to his pre-AEW work. So this made for a dull main event for me.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3/5

Definitely an improvement over last week, plus at least we got some “big” names on Dark this week!
