WWE Events To Follow Through The Remainder Of 2022

by James Smith

With WWE Clash at the Castle now in the rearview mirror, the focus is on the upcoming Extreme Rules pay-per-view. Clash at the Castle was headlined by a thrilling Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match between Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre. When all was said and done, The Tribal Chief outlasted McIntyre at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales to retain his title.

There are three pay-per-view events remaining on the WWE card for the rest of 2022. The highlight, of course, is Survivor Series 2022 which will take place inside TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts on Nov. 26.

Survivor Series is considered one of WWE’s “big four” pay-per-views along with the Royal Rumble, WrestleMania and SummerSlam. 2022 will mark the fourth Survivor Series show to take place in Boston; the 1993, 2008 and 2013 events were also held in Beantown.

Nothing has been confirmed, but there is hope that the state of Massachusetts will launch legalized online/mobile sports betting by the end of 2022 or in early 2022.If sports gambling goes live in The Old Bay State, DraftKings Massachusetts will be one of the marquee available betting apps. The anticipated offer from DraftKings Massachusetts to new customers would be a 20 percent deposit match of up to $1,000.

With that all said, here are some of the notable WWE events to follow over the final quarter of 2022.

Extreme Rules

Extreme Rules will take place at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Oct. 8. So far, there’s one confirmed match on the card.

Ronda Rousey will get another chance to regain the SmackDown Women’s Championship when she challenges Liv Morgan, who defeated The Baddest Woman on the Planet for the title at Money in the Bank 2022 two months ago.

This could very well end up being the main event of the show. Reigns almost always headlines any pay-per-view show he participates in, but it doesn’t sound like the 37-year-old will be part of Extreme Rules.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), Dave Meltzer reported that Reigns “is not on” for Extreme Rules. On top of that, Meltzer noted that Reigns’ “next major match” will take place on the Nov. 5 Crown Jewel event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Having recently signed a new deal with WWE, Reigns works considerably less dates. This includes non-major pay-per-view events. So look for someone else to get the main event spotlight on Oct. 8.

Crown Jewel

As noted above, Meltzer reported that Reigns will compete at the next event in Saudi Arabia.

The show is almost two months away, so it’s difficult to project what the card will look like. WWE has often featured part-timers and legends like Brock Lesnar as well as Hall of Famers Edge and Goldberg for their events in Saudi Arabia.

WWE runs two events in Saudi Arabia every year. The most recent one, Elimination Chamber 2022, took place back on Feb. 19 in Jeddah. Reigns defeated Goldberg to retain his Universal Championship that evening, and Lesnar emerged victorious in the Elimination Chamber bout to claim the WWE Championship.

Elimination Chamber remains Goldberg’s most recent WWE match to date. Lesnar hasn’t been on WWE programming since he lost a title match to Reigns at SummerSlam 2022 on July 30. So it wouldn’t be surprising if Goldberg, Lesnar and/or Edge are among the big-named talents to appear at Crown Jewel.

Survivor Series

In less than three months, WWE will run the final pay-per-view for main roster stars.

Survivor Series will again feature Raw superstars going up against SmackDown talents. But it’ll be interesting to see what WWE does with Reigns (the holder of the WWE and the Universal Championship belts) and The Usos (they hold both the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships).

Reigns and/or The Usos could theoretically lose one of the championship belts before Survivor Series to set up a champion vs. champion match(es). Or we could just see all The Bloodline members defend all the championship gold that evening. Either way, it’ll be interesting to see how WWE books Reigns and The Usos for Survivor Series.

Assuming WWE continues the tradition, we’ll see the Raw Women’s Champion (currently Bianca Belair) face the SmackDown Women’s Champion (currently Liv Morgan) and the United State Champion (currently Bobby Lashley) face the Intercontinental Champion (Gunther).

Following Survivor Series, the next pay-per-view for Raw and SmackDown superstars, Day 1, will take place on New Year’s Day. That show will once again be held at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
