‘WWE Raw’ Review (Aug 15th 2022)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this week’s Monday Night Raw, right here on Nerdly, in this new Triple H era where anything goes… So let’s get into the review!

Match #1: Women’s Tag Team Title Tournament – Alexa Bliss & Asuka def. Nikki A.S.H. & Doudrop

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

With their WWE Clash at the Castle teammate Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair in their corner, Alexa Bliss & Asuka overcame the dangerous combination of Nikki A.S.H. & Doudrop in the first round of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Title Tournament. After The Goddess of WWE took out Nikki outside the ring, The Empress of Tomorrow made Doudrop tap out to a devastating submission maneuver. Moments later, the victorious tag team and The EST of WWE found themselves nearly coming to blows with an intruding Bayley, Dakota Kai & IO SKY.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #2: The Miz & Ciampa def. Mustafa Ali & Cedric Alexander

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Although Ciampa failed to overcome United States Champion Bobby Lashley last week, The Miz and his hungry partner overcame the explosive tandem of Mustafa Ali & Cedric Alexander. Ali failed to see Ciampa tag himself into the action. As a result, Ciampa blindsided him with a devastating knee as Ali was hitting the 450 Splash on The A-Lister off the top rope. Ciampa then finished off his prey with the Fairytale Ending for the victory.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #3: Drew McIntyre def. Kevin Owens (DQ)

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

As he geared up to face Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WWE Clash at the Castle, Drew McIntyre came to Raw and was confronted by a rejuvenated Kevin Owens hellbent on reestablishing his “Prizefighter” attitude. Before the impromptu showdown could be decided, The Usos suddenly attacked The SmackDown Warrior. Although McIntyre was forced to endure a wicked post-match KO Stunner, he repelled the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions’ attack and sent a painful message to Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns heading into their face-to-face this Friday night.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #4: Veer Mahaan def. Beaux Keller

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The Lion unleashed another display of pure dominance before making his outmatched opponent Beaux Keller tap out to Cervical Clutch.

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #5: United States Championship Match – Bobby Lashley def. AJ Styles

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

AJ Styles challenged Bobby Lashley for the first time in a highly-anticipated clash for the United States Championship, and the contest did not disappoint. The All Mighty avoided the Phenomenal Forearm and blasted Styles with the Spear for his second title defense in as many weeks.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #6: Dakota Kai def. Dana Brooke

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Backed by Bayley and IO SKY, Dakota Kai returned to action to score a victory over 24/7 Champion Dana Brooke with an earth-shattering boot to the face.

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #7: Theory def. Dolph Ziggler

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Following several altercations in recent weeks, Theory overcame Dolph Ziggler in a hard-fought main event showdown with A-Town Down.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3.5/5

Another decent episode of Raw with not one, not two, but three OUTSTANDING matches on a seven-match card. Hell, that’s a better ratio of good matches than we’ve had in years… Years. Love the fact that folk who’ve been with WWE for years seem to have become revitalised by the regime change and a greater focus on matches than promos, on wrestling than sports entertainment. Starting to make Jericho’s “JAS” gimmick look tired already!
