‘AEW Dark: Elevation – Episode 76’ Review
Welcome to this week’s review of AEW Dark: Elevation, the opening salvo in the AEW wrestling week. We’ve got a new duo on commentary this week, Excalibur and Matt Menard..?! Let’s see what the show has to offer.
Match #1: Josh Woods and Tony Nese def. Arik Cannon and Tristan Davis
My Thoughts: Dull quasi-squash and a waste of the talent involved.
My Score: 1 out of 5
Match #2: Dark Order (Evil Uno, John Silver, Alex Reynolds, and 10) def. TUG Cooper, Drew System, Rylie Jackson and Adam Grace
My Thoughts: Fun multi-man squash. Dark ORder did their thing with aplomb as usual.
My Score: 1 out of 5
Match #3: Serena Deeb def. Sierra
My Thoughts: Sierra put in a decent showing last week and despite facing the queen of the enhancement talent squash, she also managed to showcase herself her too, breaking out of a number of Deeb’s moves. More from Sierra please Tony Khan!
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #4: Konosuke Takeshita def. Cezar Bononi
My Thoughts: Takeshita faces the big man Cezar Bononi but, as we all know, Takeshita can fight ANYONE. And fight he does, countering Bononi’s size and strength with his agility and moves. Both men came out of this one looking great (Bononi looked the best he has in a while) but Takeshita’s my guy!
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #5: Julia Hart def. Free-Range Kara
My Thoughts: Quasi-squash from Hart. Loved that she’s gone full House of Black with new gear and a new theme song. But still, this was a squash match.
My Score: 1.5 out of 5
Match #6: Private Party (Marq Quen and Isiah Kassidy) def. Jah-C and JDX
My Thoughts: An OK quasi-squash. Private Party can, and should, do better.
My Score: 1 out of 5
Match #7: Penelope Ford def. Heather Reckless
My Thoughts: Penelope Ford is back! And taking on Heather Reckless, who has been pretty good as enhancement talent recently in AEW. Still this was a quasi=squash but one that didn’t feel like it wasted my time as some of the others on this card.
My Score: 1.5 out of 5
Match #8: The Acclaimed (Max Caster and Anthony Bowens) def. Justin Fowler and JT Energy
My Thoughts: The Acclaimed on Elevation in a squash match. OK, a quasi-squash match given their opponents got SOME offence in. Got to get used to babyface Bowens and Caster now though don’t we?
My Score: 1.5 out of 5
Match #9: Hikaru Shida and Thunderstorm (Thunder Rosa and Toni Storm) def. Emi Sakura, Marina Shafir and Nyla Rose
My Thoughts: Thank god we ended this week’s Elevation on a decent match! Yes, it’s another women’s multi-person match but I can watch these all day when you’ve got this particular set of women involved. Though speaking of involved, not much Thunder Rosa in this one was there?
