Premier League 2022/23 Preview

by James Smith

The Premier League 2022/23 season starts with Crystal Palace hosting Arsenal at Selhurst Park. Meanwhile, imminent kickoff isn’t the only thing that the only trendy discussion on the table. Transfer gossip, management and coaching staff activities, and most especially, pundits’ favourites to clinch the title, have been the main focus of the media.

Top sports pundits seem to have their work cut out, and punting bonuses on platforms like betting.co.uk are becoming the go-to resource for extra value to increase staking power. It remains to be seen whether Manchester City has what it takes to retain the trophy or they’ll be usurped by any of the other members in the critically acclaimed ‘Big Six’. More so, we’re interested to see how the newly promoted sides will perform and, more importantly, the teams that may qualify for European competitions by the end of the season.

While that’s the case, let’s check out some teams you should be paying close attention to this season. If not for punting purposes, perhaps the best matches that’s bound to give you the best football viewing experience.

Manchester City – Title Defending Mission and MinimumTop4 Objective

Manchester City won the just concluded 2021/22 Premier League, and they will be hoping to repeat the same performance (if not better) to retain their trophy. More so, it’s hard to expect any less from the side, considering the coaching and technical staff at the team’s disposal.

At the same time, the club owners have also been putting efforts into securing top players to ensure that the squad has enough quality to make a top-four finish the barest minimum. Newly sighed players like former Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, former Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips, and former Sporting CP full back Pedro Porro will be key in their 2022/21 title race.

Liverpool – The Need Consistent Performance after Bottling Chances of a Treble Last Season

The Reds are happy with how the end of last season’s race turned out for them. If losing to the Citizens wasn’t painful enough, their lacklustre performance in the UCL final, which was only good for second place behind Real Madrid, can bring the sting. They’ll be looking to maintain their overall high-performance levels and add that little beat to give them a better chance of clinching the title.

It’s no more news that star forward Sadio Mane has left them for Bayern Munich. While that’s a huge depletion in squad depth, they’ll be hoping that new forward signing Darwin Núñez settles in the squad nicely and forwards Luis Díaz and Diogo Jota can improve on their last season’s brilliant performance. We’ll have to wait and see what Jürgen Klopp does to secure a major trophy this season.

Arsenal – Will Mikel Arteta’s Building Process Bring the Trophy Home this Season?

Although the odds for the gunners winning the league are at least 35/1 on any bookie, this might just be their season. Mikel Arteta has been doing great since his employment as Arsenal’s head coach in 2019. His process of rebuilding the team has steadily been remarkable, and we can only hope for more of the same this season.

They open the Premier League fixture schedule together with Crystal Palace on 5th August. Provided they can avoid the shambles that troubled them during the start of last season; they look like a side that can reasonably compete for the title race – or top-four at least.

Tottenham Hotspur – Can Antonio Conte’s Formula Get Spurs a Trophy this Season?

Conte’s arrival last year gave the Lilywhites hope that a major trophy was in sight. His overall performance last season was close enough for government work; they took a UCL spot after a close battle with Arsenal – a position that seemed only a dream from the way Nuno Espirito Santo was managing the team.

Fans and club stakeholders will be banking on his philosophy to see them through the season and possibly secure a trophy along the line. He is no stranger to the EPL and England; writing him off as not a contender for the title would be a big mistake for any team.

Entertainment is about to get more exciting come august when the top five football leagues in Europe return to your screens. Meanwhile, other contact sports like wrestling run every month, all year round; part of the reason you may not want to run out of cable subscriptions.
