‘AEW Dark: Elevation – Episode 70’ Review

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this week’s review of AEW Dark: Elevation which was filmed prior to Blood and Guts last Wednesday. We’ve got Tony Schiavone and Mark Henry on commentary and a mere six matches to cover. So let’s get to it!

Match #1: Anna Jay def. Megan Meyers

My Thoughts: Megan Meyers looks the part that’s for sure. She reminded me of Abadon but less monstrous and terrifying. She showed some promise too, taking it to Anna Jay – which means this was, you guessed it, an AEW quasi-squash match!

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #2: Best Friends def. Isaiah Broner and GPA

My Thoughts: This was another quasi-squash with Broner and GPA given enough room by Best Friends to put in some offence. Broner looked impressive both in size and strength whilst GPA brought the skills. Nice to see Chuck Taylor get the pin this week too!

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #3: Jay Lethal and Satnam Singh def. James Alexander and Ren Jones

My Thoughts: Eugh… Jay Lethal needs to go back to the drawing board. Poor Satnam Singh is being dragged down by him each and every match. Singh needs someone who’s going to lift him, up not try and steal the spotlight all the time. Back to ROH for Lethal methinks.

My Score: 1.5 out of 5

Match #4: Anthony Ogogo def. Pat Monix

My Thoughts: This is an example of what AEW’s YouTube shows are all about. Ironing out the kinks in wrestler’s repertoires. Ogogo has clearly been using his appearances to try out new stuff and it’s working. Plus he’s starting to REALLY hone that heel persona too.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #5: Hikaru Shida and Yuka Sakazaki def. Heather Reckless and Laynie Luck

My Thoughts: Shida’s back! Shida’s back! And she’s brought Yuka Sakazaki with her. Gotta love it! This was, again, a typical AEW quasi-squash with Reckless and Luck playing perfect heels for Sihda and Sakazaki to overcome – using every dirty trick in the book to try and get the win. They did not succeed and so Shida racks up another mark in the win column.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #6: Dark Order (Evil Uno, Alex Reynolds, and 10) def. The Factory (QT Marshall, Aaron Solo, and Nick Comoroto)

My Thoughts: We’re retreading the Factory/Dark Order matches again. Though each and every match the numbers of the Dark Order seem to dwindle! I get it. These matches are fan favourites – people love to cheer Dark Order and boo QT Marshall… and fan interaction is what, ultimately, makes these matches.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2.5 /5
