‘WWE Raw’ Review (June 13th 2022)

by Phil Wheat

Guess who’s back reviewing WWE Raw? Nerdly that’s who! Yes, we’re getting back into regularly reviewing the WWE’s flagship show going forward. Hopefully watching and enjoying and not hate-watching though! So far it’s been a little… mixed. Let’s see what’s happening this week!

Match #1: Jimmy Uso def. Montez Ford

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After The Street Profits defeated The Usos last week in a Championship Contender’s Match, Montez Ford faced off with Jimmy Uso in singles competition. Uso overcame the charismatic Ford, countering a top-rope splash from Ford by putting up his knees and getting the pinfall victory.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #2: Money in the Bank Ladder Match Qualifier – Alexa Bliss & Liv Morgan def. Doudrop & Nikki A.S.H.

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

With two spots on the line for the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match, Alexa Bliss and Liv Morgan teamed up to take on Nikki A.S.H. and Doudrop. As both Bliss and Nikki A.S.H. had previously won the coveted contract and successfully cashed in, the stakes were high. In the final stages of the match, The Goddess of WWE scouted her former tag team partner and hit her with a Spike DDT to secure the victory, sending both her and Morgan to Las Vegas.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #3: Ezekiel def. Kevin Owens

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

KO wasted little time, hitting Ezekiel with a Cannonball and a Swanton Bomb right from the get-go. Ezekiel turned the tide, however, executing a spine-tingling Fireman’s Carry on Owens onto the unforgiving steel steps. After being knocked out of the ring by Ezekiel with a high knee strike, Owens became enraged, repeatedly stating that Ezekiel is Elias. This diatribe led to KO being counted out and gifted Ezekiel the win. After the bout, Ezekiel stated his intentions to qualify for the Money in the Bank Ladder Match and revealed a surprise: Next week on Raw, Elias will return for a special concert!

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #4: MVP def. Cedric Alexander

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Following his interference at WWE Hell in a Cell which helped Bobby Lashley defeat Omos and MVP, Cedric Alexander faced off with his former manager MVP on Raw. MVP picked up the win, delivering a Playmaker to Alexander and earning some payback for himself and his colossal client.

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #5: Money in the Bank Ladder Match Qualifier – Seth “Freakin” Rollins def. AJ Styles

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In another must-see Money in the Bank Qualifying Match, two former WWE Champions in AJ Styles and Seth “Freakin” Rollins put on a magnificent contest. Styles took it to Rollins early, hitting a Phenomenal Forearm from the ring to the outside, where Rollins was left reeling. The Phenomenal One countered a Stomp attempt with a calculated Calf Crusher. The Visionary executed a brilliant reversal as well, hitting a chop block after denying Styles a Phenomenal Forearm. Rollins punched his ticket to WWE Money in the Bank, however, as he caught Styles with a pin after a Calf Crusher attempt.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #6: Riddle def. Ciampa

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After a shocking stipulation announcement on “Miz TV” regarding Riddle’s Championship clash with WWE Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns, The Original Bro faced off with the conniving Ciampa. With The Miz providing guest commentary, Riddle started the match with aggression, locking an armbar onto Ciampa. Ciampa brought everything he had to the contest, grossly targeting Riddle’s open toes and delivering a near knockout knee smash. Riddle eventually landed a Floating Bro followed by an RKO, picking up a huge win heading into his unprecedented battle with The Head of the Table on SmackDown.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #7: Chad Gable def. Mustafa Ali

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The inspiring Mustafa Ali battled “The Dean of the Alpha Academy” Chad Gable in a showcase of technical mastery. With Otis giving him an assist, Gable hit the American Automatic, earning a much-needed win for himself and The Alpha Academy.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #8: Veer Mahaan def. Rey Mysterio

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After nearly eviscerating Dominik Mysterio last week, Veer Mahaan faced off against the patriarch of the Mysterio dynasty, Rey Mysterio. The Master of the 619 put up a spirited fight, but Mahaan’s roar was too much for Mysterio as Mahaan clinched the win with the Cervical Clutch.

My Score: 1 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2.5/5

I’ve said it before and I’ll undoubtedly say it again, but WWE shows are written like rollercoaster rides these days… This week’s show opened strong, fell into a dip, and climbed back up with two great matches – Rollins/Styles and Riddle/Ciampa – before falling off a cliff with THAT godawful main event? What were WWE thinking putting Veer in the main event AND having him beat Rey Mysterio? One of the most WTF?! moves the company has made in some time.
