‘AEW Dark: Elevation – Episode 67’ Review
Welcome to this week’s review of AEW Dark: Elevation which sees the show get back to a longer card, featuring seven matches this week. We’ve got Excalibur and Mark Henry on commentary and the Dark Order in ANOTHER main event! Let’s get into the review…
Match #1: Nyla Rose def. Max the Impaler
My Thoughts: Well Max the Impaler certainly has an interesting look! Max was also a fantastic foil for Nyla, seemingly matching her beat for beat. This one could have done with more time and a not-so-quick ending. But hey ho, we’re back to quick matches packed in a short amount of time on Dark and Elevation it seems.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #2: Private Party def. Camaro Jackson and SK Bishop
My Thoughts: I’m not the biggest fan of Private Party but I do like it when they treat matches more seriously. This was 100% a squash match, one that made PP look strong – which makes a change given how weak they’ve looked in the past year or so in AEW. The crowd weren’t into this match, no matter how hard Isiah Kassidy tried to get them involved… In fact the audience seemed more invested in the enhancement talent than Private Party!
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #3: Ortiz def. Anaya
My Thoughts: Ortiz is back for another warm-up match before his hair vs. hair match this week against Chris Jericho. AEW are really bizarre doing this for wrestlers who are in big matches on the main show(s); it’s something we’ve seen over and over again – it’s almost as if AEW make a match then worry fans don’t feel one or more of the opponents have had a strong enough showing on their programmes, so they stick them in a flurry of Dark and Elevations to try and build them up. Even though a LOT of AEW fans don’t even watch these YouTube shows (allegedly).
My Score: 1.5 out of 5
Match #4: Serena Deeb and Mercedes Martinez def. Tootie Lynn and Miranda Gordy
My Thoughts: Serena Deeb and Mercedes Martinez make for a great tag team, one that feels like it could explode in jealousy at any minute but one that also feels like it could dominate the entire women’s roster. Tootie Lynn and Miranda Gordy never stood a chance. Squash-tastic!
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #5: Angelo Parker and Matt Menard (aka 2point0 – their BETTER name!) def. Warhorse and Danny Adams
My Thoughts: Warhorse is back in AEW! It’s been some time since Warhorse has been on AEW programming so it’s a shame to see him in what was essentially an AEW quasi-squash match. Hell, at least he got some decent offence in before getting his ass handed to him!
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #6: Ruby Soho def. Heidi Howitzer
My Thoughts: First we had Max the Impaler and now comes Heidi Howitzer – two women who have distinctive looks and don’t take their beatings lying down. Howitzer reminded me of Havok from Impact Wrestling, only with a bit more skill and agility. Soho was in control of this match for the entirety of its duration, her “temper” flaring at one point – so we got some storytelling on Elevation at least. Let’s hope Tony Khan makes more of it on Dynamite and Rampage etc. and Soho gets some decent matches against more high-profile members of the women’s roster. Though I’d also like to see Heidi Howitzer back on AEW television in the near future too!
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #7: Dark Order (Evil Uno and 10) def. The Factory (QT Marshall and Aaron Solo)
My Thoughts: this was just another rehash of the same Dark Order and The Factory matches we’ve been getting for weeks on end. The members of the matches might change, and sometimes even the result, but the matches all – ultimately – feel exactly the same. Average.
