‘On The Trail of UFOs: Night Visitors’ Review
Written and Directed by Seth Breedlove

There was a time in my life (a long time ago when I was a teenager) that I would happily watch, and often believe, anything I could on aliens and UFOs. Not just that but any kind of crazy conspiracy theories, legends and myths. I still have plenty of interest in all of them but much much less of the actual belief. I think The X-Files has a lot to blame for this but whatever it was, it means that even now, about twenty years later, I can still enjoy watching UFO documentaries. And it seems I’m not the only one as Night Visitors is part of an ‘In The Trail of UFOs’ series of films.
This documentary spends most of its time talking about cattle mutilation. Not the death metal band but the phenomenon that became ‘widespread’ in the 1960s across the American West. In modern times this is now linked to UFOs and the documentary crew ‘Small Town Monsters’ with investigator Shannon LeGro go in search of the truth behind the sightings and animal deaths.
If you have had even a passing interest in UFOs then you would have heard of cattle mutilation and the stories about it. The organs and insides – always including the brain – would often be taken out of the cattle but with nothing on the outside of the body to show this. There would be no blood or markings. Alongside this are sightings of lights in the night sky and cylinder objects flying above or near the fields. Nothing at all surprising in stories like this.
The documentary crew do get a variety of people to talk about their experiences. And it has to be said they are all surprisingly calm and ‘normal’ sounding when they talk about them. They all look very relaxed and happy to chat about the things they have seen and explain why it is all so unbelievable. The tales are pretty ridiculous at times but you don’t really think the people that are telling them are crazy. They believe what they are saying and tell the details very well. They are all very interesting to listen to, which is key for a documentary. They even get a police officer, with his face blurred out, I think to show how ‘this must be real’ but he wasn’t any more convincing than anyone else.
It’s no surprise to see that director Seth Breedlove (Skinwalker: The Howl of the Rougarou)has directed many of these types of documentaries (I’ve seen a few myself) because they are well put together. Even the dodgy CGI recreations of the UFOs are fitting. But it’s never too over the top or dramatic. It does all feel very nineties but this is no bad thing. If you like these sorts of documentaries – ones you might find on late night TV – then you’ll definitely enjoy Night Visitors. It’s a very easy watch for people that like to listen to stories about the supernatural and extra-terrestrial.
