‘AEW Dark: Elevation – Episode 30’ Review

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this weeks review of AEW Dark: Elevation, the THIRTIETH episode(!) of the show which this weeks emanates from New York – with not only Tony Schiavone and Mark Henry on commentary but also the Mad King of New York himself, Eddie Kingston… I bloody love Kingston on commentary I really do.

Match #1: Thunder Rosa def. Kayla Sparks

My Thoughts: Kayla Sparks never stood a chance against Thunder Rosa, especially with that hot New York crowd behind her. This one played out as usual – Sparks got some offense in, before Rosa took charge and demolished Sparks with some really stiff shots.

My Score: 1.5 out of 5

Match #2: Dark Order’s John Silver, Alex Reynolds, Alan “5” Angels, and 10 def. TJ Crawford, Eric James, Kevin Tibbs and Dean Alexander

My Thoughts: Dear god, what a pop for John Silver towards the end of this match as he took down all FOUR opponents by himself! It was great to see Dark Order together again as a cohesive unit, even if Stu Grayson and Evil Uno weren’t in this one. Nice end to this one with everyone getting to hit a finisher before 10 did his usual ragdoll finish to end this one.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #3: Paul Wight def. CPA, VSK, and RSP

My Thoughts: This was a decent, and remarkably fun, gimmick match with Paul Wight literally playing with all three of his opponents whilst the Gunn Club looked on. The crowd were really behind Wight and it carried this match a long way.

My Score: 1.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2.5/5

There were only 3 matches on this one with the last half of the show taken up by promos regarding Grand Slam… Now promos are what they are, but these ones really sold the show and if I hadn’t watched it already I would seek out both last weeks Dynamite and Rampage ASAP. I can’t lie, AEW can cut solid, emotional promos that pull on the audiences heartstrings and really make you want to support the company and even moreso the wrestlers.
