Five Slot Games Inspired by Video Games

by James Smith

For anyone who is paying attention to popular media these days, one would be able to tell that video games are slowly taking over the world. This is especially true for anyone who was born after the year 1980. This was the decade when video games first started becoming commercially available in a widespread manner. Fast forward to a few decades later and it has become one of the most lucrative industries in the entire world. It should come to no one’s surprise that video games are also slowly creeping their way into other aspects of media and pop culture.

One of the reasons why video games are so popular these days is that they have a universal appeal. While games are typically seen as activities for mere children to enjoy, the truth is that adults comprise a huge bulk of the gaming market. This is an important fact to note considering that it’s adults who have the spending power. This means that the market for gaming is a huge one and it’s only going to continue to grow as gaming technology gets better and more sophisticated over time. Video games have inspired so many different things in pop culture. Most notably, the movie world has come out with silver screen renditions of popular game franchises. A popular example is the Tomb Raider series of films that have come out over the past couple of decades. This was a film franchise that originated as a video game from the 90s. Another example is the Resident Evil movie franchise that was inspired by the cult video game in the early days of the PlayStation.

Another way that video games have impacted pop culture is in the world of gambling. Not a lot of gamblers may realize that there are a huge number of online slots out there that are largely inspired by video game franchises. In this list, we will run through some of the most popular slot games that have video game themes:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

It’s without a question that Call of Duty is one of the most popular gaming franchises of all time. These days, whenever people think of contemporary first-person shooter war games, they think of Call of Duty. And among the Call of Duty fandom, many will say that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has been the best of the franchise so far. Many Call of Duty fans who are also fond of gambling will be happy to know that there is actually a slot game that is inspired by Call of Duty 4.

In the slot game variation, the machine comes with a 5×3 format and 25 paylines. It was developed by a company called Cryptologic and it features a lot of symbols that were originally from the actual Call of Duty video game like grenades, ammunition, and targets.

Street Fighter

For people who grew up in arcades back in the 90s, they would definitely be familiar with the Street Fighter gaming franchise. It’s the original 2D fighting game that managed to captivate the hearts of many young gamers. Some people may be aware that Street Fighter has already been depicted in numerous movie adaptations. However, not many may realize that there is also a slot game version of the movie as well.

The slot machine version of the game was developed by a company called Amaya and is titled Street Fighter II. Just like the Call of Duty slot game, many of the symbols and images in the Street Fighter II slot game are inspired from the original game itself. The slot game also features some of the most beloved characters from the original game like Chun-Li, M Bison, and Guile.

Tomb Raider

We’ve already talked about Tomb Raider previously and how this beloved gaming franchise has already been adapted into numerous films. But everyone’s favorite Tomb Raider has also managed to raid her way into online slot games as well. Lara Croft was a revolutionary character at a time where a majority of popular games featured male leads. It’s only fitting that she gets the limelight in the online gambling world as well.

The Lara Croft Tomb Raider slot game was developed by a company called Microgaming and features a 5-reel video slot with 15 paylines. Many of the graphics and icons that are depicted in this slot game are also largely inspired by the images in the original video game.
