eBuying Comics: Week 46
With the country in another lockdown so close to Christmas I thought I would dedicate this space to shining a light on comic shops operating postal, or covid secure click and collect services during this time. Hit me up in the comments or on Twitter @IanWells87 or email me ianwells87@hotmail.com to keep this list fresh and hopefully I can put it up a second week.
Ace Comics
Colchester and Southend
Have visited both stores numerous times. With Colchester having a great back issue room upstairs and more modern stuff down. Both excellent for current trades and new releases.
Close Encounters
Bedford, Northampton, Peterborough
closeencounters.co.uk | @CEncountersUK
My LCS, very friendly staff, easy/informative comms via email. Each of the three stores offers something different so best to email with any enquiries. Knowledgable staff across all areas of geekdom.
Collectors Assemble
Leamington Spa and Banbury
collectors-assemble.com | @Collectors_A
PHIL: I’ve used Collectors Assemble’s website quite a few times now to buy comics after my LCS decide to stop selling new books post first lockdown. Books arrive with 3-4 days and the guys are VERY fast to answer queries via their Facebook page too. Plus the prices, 20% pre-orders, are great too – especially on some of the rare books (1:25, 1:100 stuff) plus if you’re a varitant cover fan CA have you covered!
Dave’s Comics
Brighton
davescomics.co.uk | @DavesComics
Also available at davescomicsuk.blogspot.com where a step by step guide is in place for online orders and click and collect at this time. Been there once many moons ago, Dave is super friendly and knows his stuff. Excellent back issue selection.
Magic Kingdom Comics
Milton Keynes
www.wargamesworkshop.co.uk | Magic Kingdom Comics
Solid selection of tpbs, new releases and Pops. Also in partnership with War Games Work Shop next door.
OK Comics
Leeds
okcomics.co.uk | shop@okcomics.co.uk – best for online orders/enquries during lockdown | @OKComics
Never been here, but on my list. From what I learnt on Twitter, great shop, dedicated customers. Great selection of trades, hardcovers, new releases. The pictures online speak for themselves.
PHIL: Used to one of my two LCS’ when I lived near North Yorkshire, making regular fortnightly visits to the shop. Super-knowledgeable staff and a wealth of books (new and old) makes this one of my favourite comic shops in the country.

Nottingham
This is what I refer to as the thinking man’s comic shop! Plenty of indie and small press titles available, side by side with new releases and trades.
Raygun Comics
Richmond, London
rayguncomics.co.uk | @Raygun_comics
Have used their eBay store which has extensive back issues. Gold a plenty on offer here!
Travelling Man
Leeds, York, Manchester, Newcastle
travellingman.com | @TravellingManUK
Again one I only know from twitter. a dedicated fanbase speaks for itself. Great for gaming and latest trades.
PHIL: Like OK Comics, the Leeds store used to one of my two LCS’ when I lived near North Yorkshire, making regular fortnightly visits to the shop. In recent years the Travelling Man “brand” have gone deeper in board games and so, especially in the Manchester store, the comics selection has dwindled. However if you’re in Manchester or Leeds and are looking for a local comic shop for your pull list I can recommend both Travelling Man stores – the Leeds branch in particular used to be great for adding “suggestions” to your list based on your list and – when they get to know you – your likes and dislikes.

Two places I have used recently and also want to mention are online sellers onlycomicfans.com and reedcomics.com. My only regret is I haven’t been to all of these shops more or in some cases at all. Hopefully this post will get some talk going. Any let small thing I can do to help an industry I love being a part of.
