‘Battlefield 2025’ VOD Review

Frequent collaborators Jospeh Mbah and Robert Conway, the duo behind the likes of Expo and Krampus Origins, retreat for a sci-fi movie that apparently expands on two short “Paradox Universe” films Mbah made in 2018.
Battlefield 2025 tells the story of small-town America, a small town in Arizona to be precise, where weekend campers, an escaped convict, young lovers and a police officer all get entangled in an alien invasion, experiencing a night of terror when a hostile visitor from another world arrives… Did I say arrives? That’s technically true, even if the alien crash lands – as usual in these types of movies!
However the audience has to sit through thirty minutes of character building and scene-setting before we get so much as a sniff of the alien on Earth. Why we had to spend so much time getting to know the films characters is beyond me. After all, for the most part they are all little more than stereotypes and cliches. Which is something you can say about Battlefield 2025 as a whole – its a series of sci-fi cliches and tropes wrapped up in a film that treads over familiar plot points for ANYONE that’s ever seen an alien invasion movie.
However, this isn’t just a sci-fi flick, Battlefield 2025 is also a horror movie. Complete with the usual slasher movie tropes – only with an alien as a killer and the hills of Arizona as his hunting ground. Which, besides trying to hide the low-budget nature of the film, is probably why – once the alien crashes, the film suddenly switches to a night time setting. Making this the FASTEST sunset I’ve ever seen in a movie. It’s actually somewhat comical how quickly night falls in this flick!
To be fair to Battlefield 2025 though, the alien invader at least looks cool, with its bug-like appearance, huge mandibles and glowing blue eyes. All of which stand out against the darkness of the night; which obviously hides a lot of the creature AND films, issues…
Not a film that’s going to set the world on fire, Battlefield 2025 is at least a decent time-passer. Plus it’s always great to see Anna Harr in another film role!
