‘All Elite Wrestling: Dark’ Review (June 23rd & 30th 2020)

by Nathan Favel

Welcome to this double-sized version of the All Elite Wrestling: Dark review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and it’s Revok…DARRYL REVOK!!! I missed last week’s show, so I’m going to give you both this week, but in an alternate format. I’ll list off both weeks’ matches and give the rating for each, followed by a recommendation of what the best matches were (given the rest will just be squashes). Okay, here come a thousand squash matches and one match featuring more than a minute of actual wrestling.

June 23rd 2020

  • Brian Cage def. Robert Anthony (2.4)
  • SCU (Frankie Kazarian & Christopher Daniels) def. David Ali and Musa (2.5)
  • Shawn Spears def. Pineapple Pete [Suge D] (2.6)
  • Lance Archer def. Griff Garrison (2.3)
  • Joey Janela & Sonny Kiss def. Alex Reynolds & John Silver (3.2)
  • KiLynn King def. Mel (1.6)
  • Scorpio Sky def. Lee Johnson (2.1)
  • Jurassic Express (Marko Stunt, Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus) def. Luther, Max Caster and Serpentico (2.7)
  • Orange Cassidy def. Peter Avalon (3)

My Picks: Orange Cassidy vs. Peter Avalon / Joey Janela & Sonny Kiss vs. Alex Reynolds & John Silver
My Thoughts: There only two matches here that aren’t squashes. I get that lots of new people are getting a crack at the national spotlight this way, but it would be better to give them competitive matches so they can show their stuff.

Final Verdict: 2.4/5

This was a waste of a lot of potential stars here. Longer matches provide ample time to be successful. Book longer matches…if you can’t, then book less matches that can go longer.

June 30th 2020

  • Shawn Spears def. Max Caster (2.3)
  • Lance Archer def. Pineapple Pete (2.6)
  • Ricky Starks def. Griff Garrison (2.4)
  • Scorpio Sky def. Bradley Pierce (2.4)
  • Allie (Cherry Bomb) and Brandi Rhodes def. KiLynn King and Skyler Moore (2.3)
  • The Butcher And The Blade def. Fuego del Sol and Low Rida (2.3)
  • The Young Bucks def. Brandon Cutler and Peter Avalon (2.8)

My Picks: Young Bucks vs. Cutler And Avalon
My Thoughts: One match worth watching, even if only by a marginal degree.

Final Verdict: 2.4/5

Squash matches rarely ever yield any positive results, so why book them? How many of you reading this will actually want to watch squash matches all day or even just an hour?

Ultimate Verdict:

This was two weeks of wasted time that could have been spent on letting new people wrestle to their fullest potential. Also, does “Ultimate Verdict” make me sound like an asshole?
