by Nathan Favel

Welcome to this review of Impact Wrestling’s Star Struck event, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have another PPV card from Impact this weekend, so get your Mr. TNA shirt on and let’s rock and roll hootchie…koo.

impact-starstruck-header

Match #1: Peter Avalon defeated Jordan Clearwater

My Opinion: 2.5 out of 5 – This was a solid match that moved well and didn’t leave a bad taste in my mouth after it was done.

Match #2: Reno Scum defeated Rockness Monsters

My Opinion: 2.5 out of 5 – This was a decent match that had enough action to last for the ten or so minutes it was booked for. Reno isn’t a great team yet, but they are firm enough to withstand pressure. What the hell does that even mean? This wasn’t one of the great matches, but it worked for what it was.

Match #3: Jordynne Grace defeated Madison Rayne

My Opinion: 2.5 out of 5 – This was a good match that should have gone a lot longer.

Match #4: Jake Crist defeated Ace Austin and Trey – Triple Threat Match X-Division Championship

My Opinion: 3 out of 5 – This was the standard sort of three-man X-Division melee that Impact has always booked, but it looked good and had the spots, so there you go.

Match #5: Havok defeated Viva Van

My Opinion: 1 out of 5 – This sucked…it was a squash.

Match #6: Havok defeated Jon E Bravo

My Opinion: 1 out of 5 – This sucked…it was a squash.

Match #7: Sami Callihan defeated Willie Mack

My Opinion: 3.5 out of 5 – This was an excellent match that had the right winner amidst action that made both men look good. These guys have a lot chemistry together and it could lead to a great feud, if the chance should ever really arise beyond what they’ve already done together. These guys don’t pull any punches (so to speak) and work very hard to make their matches feel like the real deal, which is the case here. Altogether, this was a big hit and pillar of strength for this card.

Match #8: Eddie Edwards defeated Moose – Street Fight Match

My Opinion: 3.5 out of 5 – This was a nice, long brawl that went all over the place and had all the weapons shots you can handle. This felt like what happens when two soccer moms are fighting over the last can of beans at Whole Foods. Eddie was great here and Moose wasn’t that far behind. What else can be said about a match that featured two people brawl for twenty minutes?

Match #9: Michael Elgin defeated Rich Swann

My Opinion: 4 out of 5 – This was a great match that delivered great action. These guys have plenty of chemistry together (I’ve said that before in this review) and knew what to do with that chemistry. This definitely felt like it belonged on PPV.

Match #10: (Main Event) The North defeated Tommy Dreamer and Rhino – Impact World Tag Team Championship Match

My Opinion: 2.5 out of 5 – The North did really well here to make a match that was interesting enough to be worth booking, but lacked the quality of the last few matches. Tommy looked okay, but it was Rhino who kept this match going for his team. Over-all, this did enough to not be bad, but not enough to be great either.

Final Verdict: 3.5/5

The three fantastic matches, combined with a card that was pretty sound most of the way through, made for quite the good show.
