‘MLW: Fusion’ Wrestling Review (May 25th 2019)
Welcome to this week’s review of Major League Wrestling, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have a whole bunch of something from a very reliable league. Let’s see if it is every bit as good as anything that has come before it.
Match #1: Jacob Fatu & Josef Samael (CONTRA) beat Ace Romero & Barrington Hughes – Tag Team Match
The following is courtesy of mlw.com:
Josef Samael and Jacob Fatu teamed up to face super heavyweights Barrington Hughes and Ace Romero, who asked for the unsanctioned grudge match after numerous attacks by CONTRA. The larger Hughes and Romero had an early advantage. But Samael blasted his ever-present spike onto the back of Romero’s head, knocking him out of action. That allowed Fatu and Samael to team up on the out-manned Hughes. A Fatu moonsault was the final blow during the official match. But CONTRA continued its assault after the bell.
My Opinion: 1 out of 5 – This was far too short and too damn dull to be much of anything.
Match #2: Low Ki and Ricky Martinez (with Salina de la Renta) beat Troy Hollywood and Mr. Grim – Tag Team Match
The following is courtesy of mlw.com:
Promociones Dorado’s Low Ki and Ricky Martinez made quick work of a pair of local wrestlers, with Low Ki picking up the victory with a double stomp.
My Opinion: 1.5 out of 5 – This was a waste of time. This went about a minute and wasted each man’s talent.
Match #3: (Main Event) “Filthy” Tom Lawlor beat “Avalanche” Robert Dreissker – Major League Wrestling World Championship Match
The following is courtesy of mlw.com:
As World Champion, Lawlor has said he’ll take on all comers, from all over the world. This week, he faced a challenge from the Austrian Avalanche, Robert Dreissker, the top-ranked wrestler in Germany’s wXw. It was a hard-hitting, grueling match. Dreissker seemed to have Lawlor in trouble, but missed a splash off the turnbuckle. That opened the door for Lawlor to nail a massive knee strike and then slap on the rear naked choke to score the submission victory.
My Opinion: 3 out of 5 – This was a real slug-fest kind of a brawl, with some sound wrestling thrown in to the mix more than once. These guys made the most of about ten minutes worth of time, I can tell you that. This whole thing looked like it hurt to high heaven, which is about right for a wrestling match. It’s nice to see two guys like this get a chance to wrestle a main event, especially for a title. I enjoyed this fight and I wouldn’t mind seeing a few more from these guys.
News Of The Night:
- CONTRA Unit attacked numerous people, including Tom Lawlor, Low Ki and The Lucha Bros.
- LA Park saw his title shot thwarted by Sami Callihan and Mance Warner, when he tried to cash in his title shot on an injured Tom Lawlor.
Final Verdict: 2.5/5
Too much time was spent on making CONTRA Unit look tough at the expense of the matches.
