Welcome to this edition of The Last Week In Wrestling, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and there’s lots of great wrestling to cover, so let’s get right to it. Also, I’m going to change the match ratings into a ranking list of the top 10, so I can pretend I know how to make this column suspenseful.

Best Promo:

Fallen Angel Rises Again (Ring of Honor) – Christopher Daniels cut another great promo that was like the sequel to his promo about wanting to be the ROH World Champion from a year or so ago. I was tempted to go the popular route with Seth Rollins’ “pipe-bomb” promo, but Daniels stuck to the rules of promos to sell folks on every match he has left in his career, while the “pipe-bomb” was exciting but mostly just for show.

Best Moment:

Tyler Breeze Gains Redemption (NXT) – Ricochet and Tyler Breeze had an excellent contest in the main event of NXT, which got both of them a standing ovation from the crowd. For Ricochet, the adulation of the crowd is a normal prize, but for Tyler Breeze, getting the praise of the people is a gift he had to wait far too long for amidst a disappointing run on the WWE main roster. I hope Breeze gets to run with this shot at the ball and gets to live up to his potential.

Best Move:

Figure-Four Leg-Lock (Final Battle) – Jay Lethal did what Ric Flair didn’t usually get to do, which is win a match with the Figure Four. The move looked really good on both ends and ended the match on a high note.

Best Wrestler:

Seth Rollins (WWE) – In numerous ways, Seth Rollins was able to be the best wrestler of the week, due to his ability to perform any-thing that was given to him, whether it be title matches or promos or etcetera. There were quite a few people that could have been picked for this, but Seth won it, just by a hair.

Best Card:

WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs – I give this card a 4 out of 5 for having several great matches on here, even though there were some blemishes in the booking. That being said, this was one of the best WWE cards in quite some time and it lived up to its potential.

Best Show:

Ring of Honor: Final Battle – Final Battle had the best rating of all of the events this week, but that is not why it won this award. Final Battle took a good card and made it into a great show, despite the limitations of certain matches. This didn’t have the polish of Wrestlemania or Starrcade, but it had the kind of action that only the best wrestling leagues can provide. Over-all, you just can’t go wrong with an excellent card being merged with smart booking to become a great show.

Best League:

Ring of Honor – Despite a few bad booking decisions, ROH still took the week with lots of great wrestling. Nothing beats a wrestling league having great wrestling, so that’s that.

Best Match:

This will be a list that shows the top 10 best matches of the week. Screw it… let’s do it.

10. Rush versus Rich Swann (Major League Wrestling) – 3.5

9. Buddy Murphy versus Gran Metalik (205 Live) – 3.5

8. Jeff Cobb versus Adam Page – Ring of Honor TV Title Match (Final Battle) – 3.5

7. Asuka versus Charlotte Flair (Smackdown) – 3.5

6. Marty Scurll versus Christopher Daniels (Final Battle) – 4

5. Zack Sabre Jr versus Jonathan Gresham (Final Battle) – 3.5

4. Jay Lethal versus Cody – Ring Of Honor World Heavyweight Title Match (Final Battle) – 4

3. Asuka versus Becky Lynch versus Charlotte Flair – TLC Match For The SmackDown Women’s Championship (TLC) – 4.5

2. The Briscoes defeated The Young Bucks and SoCal Uncensored – Ladder War Match For The Ring Of Honor World Tag Team Titles (Final Battle) – 4.5

1. Daniel Bryan versus AJ Styles – WWE World Championship Match (TLC) – 4.5

My Take: You can’t go wrong with two of the best having a match for the biggest title in the league they work for. This was a wrestling feast… and I can’t believe I said that. This was a great match in a week with great matches.

Final Verdict: 4/5

This was a week that was made great by great matches. You can’t beat a week with great wresting and… if I say great one more time then I think I’ll lose my lunch.
