‘Lucha Underground’ Review (August 8th 2018)

Welcome to the Lucha Underground review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have the great John Cleese on tonight’s show, with our musical guest Katy Perry, but coming up next we have one of the great people… Joey Buttofucco!

Match #1: Matanza Cueto beat Mala Suerte

Matanza killed Suerte… I think. A squash match with Matanza lately means death, which seems to be a bad way to establish a good reputation within the wrestling industry… and the Better Business Bureau.

Match #2: Joey Ryan & Jack Evans beat XO Lishus & Ivelisse – Tag Team Match

This was a fun tag match that had a good pace. I like the weird feud between Evans and XO, as I’m still not sure if this is hatred or lust that Evans is booked to feel for XO. Ivelisse continued her streak of good work against men with both Evans and Ryan. XO looks like Kel Mitchell crossed with Halle Berry. There was lots of good stunts that made this match a real thrill.

Match #3: El Dragon Azteca Jr. beat Mariposa – Gift Of The Gods Match

This was a whistle and fart longer than… a whistle and a fart. This was a quick bout that gave Azteca some more momentum to his Ultima Lucha 4 title match with the presumed Lucha Underground World Champion, Pentagon Jr.

Match #4: Main Event – Worldwide Underground (Johnny Mundo, PJ Black, Taya & Aerostar) beat The Reptile Tribe (Drago, Daga, Kobra Moon & Jeremiah Snake) – Atomicos Match For The Winner’s Ultimate Wish

This was the best match of the night. There were lots of wild action sequences that gave this match plenty of drama and suspense. Aerostar was a high-light with his amazing aerial display. Jeremiah Snake was a unique addition to the roster that may prove to be an interesting angle for the rest of the season. Black was excellent, once again, and should get a title shot of his own at some point… so should Taya. I wonder if the reptiles could be defeated by throwing ice cubes at them?

News Of The Night:

1. Joey Ryan and XO Lishus appear to have the hots for each other.
2. Paul London sacrificed Mala Suerte to Matanza Cueto.
3. Mariposa got her title shot by trying to seduce Antonio Cueto with sex and money.
4. Jeremiah Snake is just Jeremiah Crane reborn as an evil snake warrior.
5. Aerostar made a surprise return to help Worldwide Underground.
6. Aerostar got Johnny Mundo to wish for Drago’s freedom.
7. Johnny Mundo proposed to Taya and she said yes.
8. The guy with the doll threatened to kill Johnny Mundo and Taya.

Final Verdict: This was a fun card that had an excellent main event
