‘Hit-Girl #2’ Review (Image Comics)

by Kevin Haldon

Written by Mark Millar | Art by Ricardo Lopez Ortiz | Published by Image Comics

Hit-Girl’s wreaking havoc in Colombia. Armed to the hilt, she kidnaps the country’s most notorious killer-for-hire and sets out to slaughter every gang member and criminal lowlife in Palmira.

Hit-Girl continues her monthly series over at Image and this bad b*tch is on a roll! So last issue saw Hit-Girl (Mindy) learning to deal with life without Kick-ass as she went on a quest to find her new sidekick. You will remember that she landed on newly sentenced Colombian hit-man for hire and after freeing him from captivity they struck a deal of sorts that he would be a free man after helping her kill many, many men…

Mindy and her new “friend” are killing there way across Colombia and they are bloody enjoying themselves doing it. You see it turns out they are taking out most of her new buddies competition while she gets to try out some of her awesome stockpile of Russian super weapons. BUT, all may not be as it seems, while we think Mindy is just enjoying the kills she may also be playing both sides to get to her new friends crew. Using his younger brother no less… Oh that b*tch!

Another strong issue in this Colombian arc with some pretty good exposition to take us forward. We are finding out what Hit-Girls play is now but we are still not exactly sure why she is doing it, but hey I can wait. One thing is for sure the nice lady on the other side of the ear piece has an agenda.

Mark Millar has brought Hit-Girl back in a big bad way and I am loving this playful story of a strong willed pre-teen psychopath with a penchant for DC it would seem (she even takes a moment to reference a cheeky Snyder/Capullo team up on Batman). Ricardo Lopez Ortiz is nailing the chaotic nature of this story with his art and makes this book not only a pleasure to read but to look at aswell. Let’s hope Kick-Ass #2 has pulled its socks up to the level of this book – my review of that comic is coming soon!

Hit-Girl #2 is available for purchase across all digital platforms, including the Image Comics website (imagecomics.com), the official Image Comics iOS app, Comixology’s website (comixology.com), iOS, Android, and Google Play.
