Play Expo Blackpool has announced a new game plan for its 2018 event, which will feature the launch of new Dizzy game, Wonderful Dizzy, four YouTube retro super-gamers and other gaming ‘royalty’.

The event is moving to February 10th and 11th, from its usual May dates, to provide a great winter-warmer all-weather day or weekend out that allows gaming to cross the generation divide, during the half term holidays.

A line-up of gaming VIPs includes gaming legends Philip and Andrew Oliver.  This pair of gaming legends will officially launch Wonderful Dizzy, whilst also offering insight into the Dizzy Franchise and the Spectrum Next. PLAY Expo Blackpool will also host its very first Retro Games YouTuber panel talk and Q&A.  This will feature four of retro-gaming’s biggest names – super-gamers Larry Bundy Jr, Nostalgia Nerd, Kim Justice and Slopes Game Room – who will take questions from gamers keen to get their opinions and tips. Additionally, to mark the 25th birthday of the ‘Digitiser’, a video games magazine broadcast on Teletext between 1993 and 2003, another special guest will be ‘Mr Biffo’ aka Paul Rose, who was responsible for this iconic magazine.

Play Expo Blackpool will continue to pay homage to retro games such as Super Mario, Sonic, Street Fighter, Tomb Raider, and will encourage families to bridge the generation gap, challenging each other in tournaments. Minecraft games, next-gen games from PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, LAN gaming, international music-based games, the Cosplay masquerade and a shopping mall full of classic and modern games, gaming merchandise and retro toys, are other draws for gamers.

And, being true to both the location and the ethos of value-for-money, there will also be nearly 100 arcade games and pinball tables set to free-play within a classic seaside arcade setting.

A weekend, two-day pass costs £28 for an adult, £16 for a child and £68 for a family, if bought in advance.  A one-day advance ticket costs £16, £10 and £42 respectively. Buying in advance allows early entry at 10am, rather than 11am, enabling ticket holders to quickly get on to their favourite consoles and machines. The event closes at 6pm both days.
