Ten Best: 80s Horror movies on Netflix

by Phil Wheat

Given that Halloween is fast-approaching, I thought I’d put together a number of listicles couting down some of my favourite films to watch this horrorday season. First up are my picks for the ten best 80s horror films on Neflix.

Netflix has a great list of spooky titles available on the service including the likes of TV shows such as Stranger Things and Black Mirror: Season 3 (reviewed here), and new movies like Spellbinder, The Intruders and Felony; all of which join the likes of Carrie, Paranormal Activity and The Ring. It’s safe to say that when it comes to choosing a movie this Halloween, Netflix has you covered!

So, on to my list. In no particular order:

10) Humanoids from the Deep

n this creepy chiller, mutant fish monsters bring mayhem to a sleepy seaside community as they kidnap and mate with the town’s nubile teenage girls.

9) Child’s Play

When a rash of murders unfolds, 6-year-old Andy knows that his toy doll Chucky is the killer, but neither his mom nor the cops believe him.

8) Creature

After landing on Saturn’s largest moon, an American exploration team becomes the prey of a vicious alien creature intent on killing them all.

7) The Believers

A laconic police psychologist is reluctantly drawn into a series of grisly, ritualistic murders involving the immolation of two youths.

6) Killer Klowns from Outer Space

An alien band of killer clowns descends from the cosmos to harvest scores of small-town victims, cocooning their prey in cotton candy to eat later.

5) From Beyond

After inventing a way for creatures from the fourth dimension to cross over, a doctor suffers a grisly decapitation, and a psychiatrist investigates.

4) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2

A small-town disc jockey and an embittered Texas Ranger – whose son was killed in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre – team up to put an end to the murderous affairs of the Sawyer family in this sequel to the cult favorite.

3) Friday the 13th: Part 4: The Final Chapter

Hockey-masked psychopath Jason Vorhees is back in business at Camp Crystal Lake in the fourth (but far from final) installment of the popular horror franchise. As randy teens are slain one by one, Tommy Jarvis concocts a plan to distract the killer.

2) April Fool’s Day

College pals gathered at an heiress’s island mansion discover each has a hidden secret, and as the truth comes to light, the bodies pile up.

1) The Return of the Living Dead

When medical supply company workers unwittingly release zombies from cylinders in which they’ve been trapped for years, the undead are ready to party.
