Games are simply easier to find, easier to play and the whole experience is favourable. Even people who aren’t the most passionate gamers, will have at least one go to gaming app on their phone.
Whilst mobile gaming isn’t an opposition for PC and console gaming, it’s a completely different portal and offers a great alternative. Almost everyone has a mobile phone, it’s handheld and the fact it can be used on the move makes it a lot more convenient for gamers.
The estimated reach of the of the mobile gaming market is a staggering 1.2billion people, making up a sixth of the world’s population. The market is worth a sizeable amount, it was estimated in 2015 that the mobile gaming market generated $30billion whilst the console market accumulated $26billion.
The dawn of mobile gaming only became apparent over the last six years or so, so the possibilities for the market are endless.
Angry Birds is just one of the popular apps and was a catalyst for mobile gaming. With the app, mobile gaming became more accepted and it showed that there was serious money to be made. The app, which is free to download, is now worth an estimated $6billion.
Following the success of Angry birds, developers realised there was a gap in the market for console games to be reconstructed so they were reachable for mobile gamers. The Grand Theft Auto franchise latched on to the mobile gaming industry and many followed suit.
Grand Theft Auto has also set the precedent for online gaming, an industry which has highly influenced mobile gaming. GTA online rung up a profit of more than $1billion in sales and inspired Two-Take’s future in online gaming. Mobile and online gaming go hand in hand with the latter proving a huge significance in the other’s popularity.
Whilst mobile gaming may triumph console and PC’s because it is simply more accessible, it may also because it found its niche in the sense that it is more casual. The confectionary themed app has been downloaded an astonishing 500million times; that’s more than the population of the United States.
