Season 6 of Game of Thrones is almost here, and the hype around the show is at a high right now. While most people are questioning if Jon Snow is really dead, some others may have noticed the Game of Thrones: Official Collector’s Models has been released. Is it worth buying for fans of the show? The first magazine focuses on Daenerys Targaryen in her role as the mother of dragons. The magazine describes the model itself as:

“Your hand-painted figurine depicts Daenerys in her regal blue attire (with cape) she wore in season 3, episode 4, “And Now His Watch is Ended”. In Astapor, she is handed a slave-master’s whip to signify ownership when she acquires an army of Unsullied Soldiers in exchange for Drogon, her largest dragon. However, when the transaction is completed, she commands Drogon to breathe fire on the Good Master and slave trader, Krazyns mo Nakloz, thus killing him. She then orders her army to kill the city’s slave-masters, offering her soldiers the option to fight for her as free men.”

The magazine itself looks at the character, her costumes, the locations, and the themes that surround Daenerys. While not too detailed it does cover the important story elements, especially the issues of being the Mother of Dragons and having to try to control them. The fact that the magazine does highlight the fact that the character is often out of her depth with the size of her new empire is an important aspect of her character.

The model itself, which is probably the most important part of the Game of Thrones: Official Collector’s Models for most, looks good but don’t get your expectations too high. The fact, for example, is not as detailed as some may have hoped but for the size of the model itself their resemblance is there. If you want a model that shows lots of detail it may be an idea to look at the larger models that cost a lot more money. What you are getting here is a good model for the amount of money you are paying for.

When comparing the Daenerys Targaryen to the Walking Dead collection that was recently released, I have to say that the Walking Dead ones are better. My Daenerys had certain areas where the metal was showing through the paint. This was in areas though that would only be noticed under scrutiny and did not cause any concern to me in regard to the quality overall.

Having looked at the first issue of Game of Thrones: Official Collector’s Models for review, I definitely like the quality of model that is provided. For those wanting to have a collection of character models from the show, the magazine comes at a nice price and the models look good. Sure, they aren’t perfect but you do have to think about the amount of money you are paying. The Daenerys Targaryen I received felt like quality, and for the most part was well painted. This is a collection that I would be more than happy to have.

Issue 1 of Game of Thrones: Official Collector’s Models is available now in the UK.
