‘OMG… We’re in a Horror Movie!!!’ Review

Six friends having a weekly board game night are interrupted by a booming movie trailer voice from the sky. Inexplicably, they find themselves trapped in a horror movie. Who amongst them will turn into a homicidal killer? Who will be the sole survivor? And who will be the first to die in the shower? Struggling to break free from the stereotypes that would see them dead, each of the friends try to stay alive in whatever desperate ways they can.

OMG… We’re in a Horror Movie!!! is insane, ridiculous, over-the-top, self –aware and breaks the fourth wall in ways I didn’t think possible. The result? A hilarious film. About halfway through I wondered if this film was made for me. I am one of those people who yell at the screen when characters do something stupid in a film, and that’s a very common occurrence in horror. OMG… We’re in a Horror Movie!!! takes every trope and silly thing that has become a standard in a horror films and mocks it. The movie then mocks itself for mocking those tropes. It is a truly glorious thing to behold.

There are moments where OMG… We’re in a Horror Movie!!! can go a bit too far. The story is a little mind bending at first, but after a while, it stops trying to explain itself and just becomes silly (in this case, that’s a good thing). The acting is also too much at points, but then again as a comedy, that can be forgiven. It’s definitely a matter of comedy taste for the viewer at the end of the day, and for me it worked incredibly well.

This isn’t a high budget film by any means, so don’t expect wonderful special effects. In fact, expect just the opposite and you’ll be fine. This is a film which takes the mick out of films after all. It won’t take anything seriously.

I haven’t laughed this much at a comedy film in a while, so well done to OMG… We’re in a Horror Movie!!! for doing that. Although it might not appeal to every viewer, if you are the kind of person who likes your comedy on the ridiculous and over-the-top side, this film is for you. I promise that if you are willing to let it, OMG… We’re in a Horror Movie!!! will have you in stitches.
