First trailer and 3 posters for ‘Captain America: Civil War’

by Phil Wheat

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Which is one hell of a change from the comic storyline! As someone who was essentially brought back into reading comics thanks to Brain Michael Bendis’ New Avengers and then the Civil War crossover event back in 2006-7 it will be interesting to see how that epic, and very political Marvel story will translate into a Summer blockbuster – after Winter Soldier I’m not worried about the politics of the film, but the change to the story, and in particular the vicious-looking beating in the trailer below (you’ll know it when you see it) has me worried for just how Captain America is portrayed in this flick.

And I wonder if any of this will lead into the “Man Out of Time” storyline as it did in the comics? That might be on leap too far for the cinematic Marvel Universe…

Set for release in the United Kingdom on April 29, 2016, Captain America: Civil War is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo; and stars Chris Evans as the iconic Super Hero character Steve Rogers/Captain America along with Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Paul Bettany as The Vision, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as Jim Rhodes/War Machine and Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch.
