London Toy Fair 2015: LEGO

by Phil Wheat

LEGO-TF-Stand

Every year at Toy Fair we have the privilege of getting a tour around the ultra-secretive LEGO stand, and this year was no different. Of course secrecy equals no photos, but what I can tell you is that there are some truly awesome sets coming later this year: including a new Scooby Doo line which seems to share a lot in common with the Monster Fighters line I was so in love with:

SCOOBY DOO

#75902 The Mystery Machine – The iconic Scooby gang vehicle comes complete with Scooby Doo, Shaggy, Fred and a glow in the dark Zombie minifigure

#75903 Haunted Lighthouse – A sea/swamp based theme that takes the Swamp Creature directly from the LEGO Monster Fighters line and places him in with Scooby Doo, Shaggy, Daphne and a creepy, bearded ghostly lighthouse keeper.

#75904 Mystery Mansion – Again reminiscent of the Vampyre Castle, this set contains minifigures of Scooby Doo, Daphne, Velma, a Dark Knight and a Vampire (aka Lord Vampyre from the Monsters Fighters line).

Also available:

#75900 Mummy Museum Mystery
#75901 Mystery Plane Adventures

According to the LEGO folks, all the monsters and/or villains in this line will have removable masks, allowing collectors to recreate the classic Scooby Doo end of episode reveal!

JURASSIC WORLD

Six sets in total at launch, titles as per Brickset. All sets will include at least one dinosaur, from a small Pteranodon is the cheapest set to a huge re-creation of the genetically modified monster T-Rex (redubbed D-Rex in the movie) in the largest playset. And yes, we get yet another Chris Pratt minifigure!

#75915 Pteranodon Capture

#75916 Dilophosaurus Ambush

#75917 Raptor Rampage – Features yet more Raptors, as well a the Chris Pratt minifigure (with motorbike)

#75918 T-Rex Tracker

#75919 Ultra Dino Breakout – featuring the giant D-Rex, as well as the “gyro pods” seen in the movie trailer. This set also features a mosquito in amber brick.

#75920 Raptor Escape – includes 2 Raptors

MARVEL SUPER HEROES

A lot of the sets on display have already been revealed online, including:

#76038 Attack on Avengers Tower – The Heroes are having a party when suddenly Avengers Tower comes under Ultron attack from the inside! Evil Ultron Mark 1 has assembled himself in the lab and is exploding out the windows. Help Iron Man and Thor to defeat Ultron and the 2 Iron Legion accomplices under his control. Make plans in the JARVIS control room and treat injured Super Heroes in the sick bay. An Iron Legion is blasting out the doors and windows of the ground-floor robot bay. The other has stolen the Loki Scepter from the analysis lab so pursue him with Thor and take aim from the roof of the tower with the secret hidden drone and stud shooters. You must retrieve the Scepter and stop Ultron! Includes 5 minifigures with a weapon and assorted accessories: Ultron Mark 1, 2 Iron Legions, Iron Man and Thor.

#76032 The Avengers Quinjet City Chase – Launch a high-speed pursuit of Ultron with the Avengers in the iconic Quinjet. Place Black Widow at the controls in the cockpit and soar into the sky. Fire the stud shooters and release Captain America on his super-cool bike to take the pursuit to the streets. Iron Man MK43 is flying alongside the Quinjet using his thrusters, ready to take on Ultron. When the time is right, make the perfect jump onto the truck to explode the sides and reveal the precious cargo. Includes 5 minifigures with assorted accessories: Vision, Captain America, Black Widow, Iron Man and Ultron.

#76031 Hulkbuster Rescue Mission –  Hulk has been trapped by the powers of Scarlet Witch and she is ready to fire an electrical bolt if he tries to escape! Place Iron Man in the cockpit of the humungous Hulk Buster suit and rush to the rescue. On the way you must fend off aerial attacks from the flying Ultron. Adjust the Hulk Busters arms and legs to create fearsome battle poses and grab the villain with the powerful hands. With Ultron safely in the mechs grip, attach Iron Man to his Super Jumper. Then take out Scarlet Witch with an accurate jump and free the imprisoned Hulk! Includes 3 minifigures with assorted weapons and accessories: Iron Man, Ultron and Scarlet Witch, plus a Hulk figure.

#76030 Hydra Showdown – Join Thor and Hawkeye as they chase the Hydra henchman through the Sokovia winter forest! Place Hawkeye in the cockpit of the awesome Avengers 4×4 vehicle and accelerate away. When you have the Hydra offroader in your sights, fire the flick missiles from the rotating turret and swerve away from the offroaders powerful stud shooter. Then launch Thor on his Super Jumper and disable the stud shooter with one perfectly aimed jump! Includes 3 minifigures with assorted weapons and accessories: Thor, Hawkeye and Hydra henchman.

# 76029 Iron man vs. Ultron – Team up with Iron Man MK45 to take on the Ultron army in an ultimate battle! Defend against aerial attacks from the Ultron vehicle piloted by the Sub-Ultron officer. Take cover as Sub-Ultron troopers leap from the back of the vehicle and fire their stud shooters. Then activate Iron Mans Super Jumper to topple the Sub-Ultron officer and bring the vehicle crashing to the ground! Includes 4 minifigures with assorted weapons and accessories: Sub-Ultron officer, 2 Sub-Ultron troopers and Iron Man MK45.

However there were two more sets on show of which we haven’t had many details:

#76036 Carnage’s Shield Sky Attack – Featuring the first appearance of Ultimate Spider-Man Miles Morales in minifigure form, along with the titular Carnage minifigure.

#76037 Rhino and Sandman Supervillain Team – This is now the set I’m most excited about after seeing it in the flesh. This playset includes not only a Spider-Man figure, but also an Iron Spider minifigure (one of my favourite iteration of the Marvel character) as well as Sandman and Rhino (who also has an armoured version a la the Iron Man Hulkbuster suit in Set No. 76031).

DC COMICS SUPER HEROES

A lot of the DC LEGO playsets on show at ToyFair have already made it on to the LEGO Shop website however… There are a few sets due for release later this year which we were privy to, including:

#76034 Batboat Harbor Pursuit – As you would expect from the title of this set contains a Batboat along with minifigures of Batman, Robin and the uber-popular (thanks to Arrow) Deathstroke.

#76035 Jokerland – Features a whopping EIGHT minifigures: Batman, Beast Boy, Harley Quinn,The Joker, The Penguin, Poison Ivy, Robin and Starfire. Of note, this playset also includes another Batmobile and a killer Ferris Wheel that looks like it has been recycled from the old Spongebob Squarepants carnival set!

STAR WARS

This year will see a mix of traditional LEGO Star Wars playsets and sets based on the new Star Wars Rebels cartoon. Highlights on the LEGO stand included the already available Micro Fighters sets:

#75074 Snowspeeder and #75075 AT-AT (the two Micro Fighters sets I want for myself)

#75092 Naboo Starfighter – A large scale version of the iconic Starfighter as seen the in the prequel trilogy

#75094 Imperial Shuttle Tydirium – An astonishingly brilliant version of the classic tri-winged spaceship (the scale suits this version much better) which comes with a number of minifigures such as Han Solo and Leia Organa.

#75097 Advent Calendar – The usual Lego Advent Calendar returns again for 2015. This time with a beard-wearing C3-PO Santa as the special seasonal minifigure!

But the best LEGO Star Wars set? That would be:

75093 Death Star Final Duel – A fantastic recreation of the iconic scene in Return of the Jedi, complete with Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Emperor Palpatine minifigures.

______

Of course there are more LEGO City sets, more LEGO Ninjago sets (including some never before seen neon green and purple bricks) and a new line based on the F1 license… More news as we get it of course.
