Phones 4U ‘Silent Cinema’ Report

by Phil Wheat

Phones 4u is coming to the rescue of frustrated cinema goers with a new silent smartphone screening experience. The pop-up cinema will provide the perfect environment to watch the latest blockbusters on the Sony Xperia Z2 smartphone without interference. Fans can pick from movie hits such as Gravity, Frozen, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, and The Hobbit.

On what was arguably a damp bank holiday weekend, it was nice of Phones 4U to invite us along to our first ‘silent cinema’. Confused? It definitely piqued our interest, so between Sunday night drinking and catching up on Game of Thrones, we headed down to the Soho Hotel to see what all the fuss was about.

The event promised to showcase the visual capabilities of Sony’s flaghship handset, the Xperia Z2. Upon arrival, we were ushered into the plush screening room within the hotel and asked to take a seat. The auditorium was filled with individual seats that were each preloaded with a host of the latest blockbusters. Initially unsure if I wanted to watch all of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty on a smartphone, it was amazing how quickly I adapted to the Xperia Z2.

Boasting a 1920 x 1080 5.2” screen, the Z2 handled the movie superbly. The Sony flagship has an IPS panel, meaning that viewing angles were not a problem. Sound was also excellent as the Sony is the first smartphone to feature digital noise cancelling technology.

You can grab your own Xperia Z2 at Phones 4U from only £37 a month.
