‘WWE SummerSlam 2013’ Blu-ray Review
The biggest event of the summer is here as the WWE Universe takes over the Staples Center in Los Angeles once again for the 26th annual SummerSlam! Can the underdog Daniel Bryan dethrone 11 time WWE Champion John Cena and win his first ever WWE Championship? Paul Heyman guys, CM Punk and Brock Lesnar collide as The Best takes on The Beast! After suffering several attacks at the hands of the menacing Wyatt family The Devil’s Favorite Demon, Kane, has his chance to get even as he takes on Bray Wyatt in the menacing Ring of Fire match!
SummerSlam has been, for over two decades, arguably the second biggest show of the year for WWE. This is its 26th annual presentation and provided fans with a loaded card of matches featuring the biggest names in professional wrestling today. SummerSlam is one to watch every year, a time when WWE pulls out the big guns again and attempts to give fans an exciting summer spectacular. Coming from Staples Centre in Los Angeles, California for its fifth consecutive year, SummerSlam 2013 featured seven (advertised) matches, eight if you include the pre-show match held before the event went live on pay-per view.
The Matches
- Bray Wyatt (w/The Wyatt Family) vs. Kane – Ring of Fire Match
- Cody Rhodes vs. Damien Sandow
- Alberto Del Rio (Champion) vs. Christian – World Title Match
- Natalya vs. Brie Bella
- Brock Lesnar (w/Paul Heyman) vs. CM Punk – No DQ Match
- Dolph Ziggler & Kaitlyn vs. Big E Langston & AJ Lee – Mixed Tag Match
- Daniel Bryan vs. John Cena – WWE Title Match
The card is a very good one, and as a wrestling fan I found this to be one of the best shows of the year from WWE. There are plenty of highlights here, with the excellent and violent match between CM Punk and Lesnar, the entertaining bout between Alberto Del Rio and Christian and the fast paced and exciting main event between John Cena and Daniel Bryan being the main positives on show here – in fact many have said that both the John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan and Brock Lesnar vs. CM Punk matches are contenders for match of the year!
There are some poor areas of course, as with a lot of pay-per-views, with the women’s match being a little messy and the opening “Ring of Fire” match being quite boring for the most part, but the good outweighs the bad considerably here.
Like usual, we get some extra goodies on the Blu-ray release, which is always a bonus, including SummerSlam Kick-off Show – Dean Ambrose vs. Rob Van Dam; highlights from Monday Night Raw (August 12th 2013 and highlights from SmackDown (August 16th 2013)
