Back This! – September 2013
Welcome to the (much-delayed) third edition of a new monthly feature here on Nerdly – Back This! – where we take a look at some of the cool content taking the crowdfunding route on sites such as Indiegogo, Sponsume and Kickstarter. Just one project this month but I promise it’s a goodie – and one I’ve personally backed
If you’d like us to consider your project to feature in a future edition of Back This!, make sure to drop us a line.

Spidora
A young drifter comes to the aide of a lonely Freak Show Lobster Girl who is convinced that the Spider Girl is trying to kill her. Spidora is a dark journey inside the world of Dr. Graves’ Palace of Illusions; a Museum of Human Oddities where mysterious creatures like Electra, Spidora and Mora, the Lobster Girl, command the stage. It is a world trapped between light and shadow where anything can happen… and does.
Pledges start as low as a meagre $1, rising all the way to $1250. Personally? I’ve gone for the $50 pledge to receive a finished copy of the film on DVD, a CD and signed poster! Ray has been pretty frequent in his updates regarding the project, from filling in the story behind his fascination with “Spidora” to discussing his love for sideshow culture and even actor Jerry Lacy. Hopefully Spidora can get its full funding of $15,000 within the next 7 days as I for one am really looking forward to seeing Fred Olen Ray tackle such a personal project.
For more info on the project check out the official website, Facebook page and, of course, the Kickstarter page.
