‘Yellowstone: The Complete Series’ DVD Review

Taylor Sheridan is an Academy Award–nominated screenwriter, producer, director, and actor who has carved out an impressively prolific career across both film and television. In 2018, Sheridan teamed with John Linson to create the modern western Yellowstone for Paramount+. Running for five seasons, the series became a flagship hit for the platform. Now, Paramount Home Entertainment has brought the show to physical media with a deluxe DVD box set aimed squarely at collectors.
Follow the epic saga of the Dutton family, owners of the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the U.S., as they fight to protect their legacy against land developers, political enemies, and threats from within.
Yellowstone often feels like a modern, rough-edged counterpart to Bonanza, but any surface similarities end there. The cast is anchored by Kevin Costner, delivering a Golden Globe-winning performance as John Dutton III. Across the board, the performances are strong, elevating scripts packed with intensity and grounded, often brutal human drama. Add to that sweeping cinematography that captures the stark beauty of the American West, and the series consistently looks as good as it plays.
That said, this is emphatically not a family-friendly western. While the premise may echo classic frontier storytelling, Yellowstone leans hard into profanity, violence, sexual content, and nudity. It’s a darker, more uncompromising take on the genre, aimed squarely at mature audiences and unafraid to push well beyond the comfort zone of traditional TV westerns.
Paramount has transferred the episodes to DVD in 1080p, presented in a widescreen format that preserves the series’ cinematic look. Audio is available in an English 5.1 Dolby Digital track, accompanied by English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. The episodes themselves are crisp and clean, free from noticeable digital artefacts or audio anomalies, and overall make for a very pleasing home-video presentation. Plus, the greatest part of physical media over streaming this series on Paramount+ is the bonus features, including:

The DVD case is a massive flipper case, and the discs are stacked two on each hub – not the best way to package DVDs. Then there is a spectacular slip case, which feels premium and has a rough, grainy texture like a piece of wood. This is really nice.
