by Jason Lockard

Doris Day’s Hollywood career was filled with many kinds of films – from musicals to screwball comedies, to even Alfred Hitchcock thrillers. Even though Doris Day never won an Oscar, she left behind a legacy of entertaining films that people have enjoyed throughout the years and will continue to enjoy for years to come.

As you know, if you’ve been reading our reviews here on Nerdly, Warner Archive Collection have been releasing actor’s spotlight Blu-rays, featuring some of the best actors and actresses in history, all of whom have gotten their chance to shine, and now it is time for Doris Day’s turn. This new Blu-ray features four of Doris Day’s great musicals. Take a look at what is included:

  • Romance on the High Seas (1948) Romantic misunderstandings abound when spouses suspect each other of being unfaithful, and a nightclub singer takes a cruise under a false identity. ***
  • Lullaby of Broadway (1951) A showgirl returns to her New York home to visit her alcoholic mother, where she catches the eye of a Broadway producer. ***
  • Love Me or Leave Me (1955) A fictionalised account of the career of jazz singer Ruth Etting and her tempestuous marriage to gangster Marty Snyder, who helped propel her to stardom. ***
  • Jumbo (1962) A girl and her father unknowingly hire a rival’s son to help them save their tiny circus. ***

Each of these films receive their own dedicated Blu-ray disc. The films have been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p Romance on the High Seas is presented in full screen format (1.37:1). As with all Warner Archive Collection releases, you do not have to worry about the picture quality you can rest assured you are getting a crisp and clean beautifully restored classic film on Blu-ray. But Warner Archive doesn’t make there releases bare bones. Take a look at what the bonus features are on these discs.

Romance on the High Seas Bonus Features:
