Let’s be clear: Nobody 2 isn’t here to reflect, ruminate, or reinvent the action genre. It’s here to wreck shop. Loud, frantic, and gloriously over-the-top, this sequel charges out of the gate with fists flying and doesn’t look back… and for fans of the original’s slick, brutal energy, that’s likely going to hit just right.
Bob Odenkirk is back as Hutch Mansell, the quiet suburban dad with a serious set of skills, and he hasn’t missed a beat. If anything, he’s more dangerous than ever. Whether he’s smashing through henchmen or navigating absurdly destructive set-pieces, Odenkirk sells it with that same worn-down charm and twitchy edge that made the first Nobody a sleeper hit.
This time, the film cranks everything up: the fights are bigger, the scenarios more cartoonish, and the body count… well, let’s just say it’s not shy. From a chaotic amusement park showdown to a finale that feels like it was choreographed by caffeine-fuelled stunt junkies, the action delivers in both scale and style. The violence is deliberately exaggerated, but it’s shot with such flair and momentum that it never overstays its welcome.
Story-wise? Don’t expect much evolution. The plot mostly serves as a thin excuse to keep Hutch moving from one violent encounter to the next. The emotional backbone that grounded the first film is dialled way down here, replaced by a more tongue-in-cheek tone and a focus on pacing. It works, mostly, though it does leave some of the character depth behind. The supporting cast is serviceable but underused, especially the film’s villain, who doesn’t make much of an impression. And while the humour mostly lands, the film occasionally teeters into self-parody – not a deal-breaker, but worth noting.
Still, Nobody 2 knows exactly what it is: a fast, furious, no-frills action movie made for those who like their mayhem loud and their heroes bruised but unbreakable. If the first film left you wanting more of Hutch taking out rooms full of bad guys with improvised weaponry and deadpan grit, this sequel delivers that in spades.
