‘The Huckleberry Hound Show: The Complete Original Series’ Blu-ray Review

2025 has been a banner year for physical media animation fans thanks to Warner Archive Collection. This year we’ve seen such amazing Blu-ray releases as Frankenstein Jr. and The Impossibles, The Magilla Gorilla Show, and Wait Till Your Father Gets Home, just to name a few. As we wind down this year, I never thought we would see this newest Blu-ray release from Warner Archive, but here we are. Hanna-Barbera’s resident hound and his amazing friends arrive with the 11-disc Blu-ray set, The Huckleberry Hound Show: The Complete Original Series!
The cool canine charmed early TV audiences with his unique personality, a slow southern drawl and fast wit that’ll win over audiences of all ages. Viewers also got familiar with Pixie and Dixie (and nemesis Mr. Jinks the cat, who hated meeses to pieces”) and future icons Yogi Bear and sidekick Boo Boo, as well as later shows which introduced the irrepressible Hokey Wolf, all of whom starred in their own segments. To faithfully present these episodes as originally aired, you’ll note each show contains original bumpers and bridges, as well as rarely seen vintage commercials featuring the characters from the series.
This Blu-ray collection is the perfect way to rediscover or introduce a new generation to one of the most beloved cartoon dogs ever. Then throw in additional adventures with Pixie and Dixie and Mr. Jinks, Yogi Bear and Boo Boo, and Hokey Wolf…. Cartoon perfection! This series ran for a wonderfully entertaining 68 episodes, and here they’ve been presented with the original black and white Kellogg’s ads. Talk about nostalgia.
Hanna-Barbera’s landmark animated series The Huckleberry Hound Show has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in its original 1.33:1 aspect ratio. The audio is an English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. The episodes have been meticulously restored from 4K scans of original 35mm negatives. I remember seeing these shows on reruns on Cartoon Network and loving them. But these new 4K scans really bring new life to these cartoons. The colours seem brighter, and the picture is sharp.
In addition to 11 Discs and 68 wonderfully restored episodes. Warner Archive Collection added some nice bonus features to this Blu-ray set. Take a look at what was included:
Special Features:
- Quotable Quotes: The Remix Music Video
- Huckleberry Hound: A Linguistic Masterpiece: Houndspeak as Humorously Interpreted by a Linguistic Professor.
- The Legendary Sound of Daws Butler: An affectionate remembrance of the brilliant voice artist who lent his talents to voice Huck and Yogi, among many other beloved characters.
68 wonderfully restored episodes would be more than enough for me to call this set a must-own set. But when you throw in the music video and featurettes. This takes this Blu-ray release of The Huckleberry Hound Show from great to greatest.
***** 5/5
The Huckleberry Hound Show is out now on Blu-ray from Warner Archive.
