‘1923: Season Two’ Blu-ray Review

For fans of Yellowstone there was no doubt major excitement for the origin story 1923, which would be led by two amazing acting legends in Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. Now, of course, this review is for season 2 of this series. So, we won’t go into Season 1. But if you want to see Yellowstone and 1923. They are available to stream on Paramount+. But let’s be honest, nothing compares to the quality of home video. That is why I am glad to be able to see 1923: Season Two on Blu-ray.
A cruel winter brings new challenges and unfinished business to Jacob and Cara back at Dutton ranch. With harsh conditions and adversaries threatening to end the Dutton legacy, Spencer embarks on an arduous journey home, racing against time to save his family in Montana. Meanwhile, Alexandra sets off on her own harrowing trans-Atlantic journey to find Spencer and reclaim their love.
The writing is excellent, and the acting of Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford really grounds the cast in believability. But Brandon Sklenar really is unforgettable as Spencer Dutton. The violence can be a bit much for some viewers, and there is a good amount of profanity and sexual content, including nudity… So, going into this series, just be aware.
Now streaming seasons differ quite a bit from broadcast TV seasons. Season 2 of 1923 has a grand total of only 7 episodes. But they are dramatic, entertaining episodes. There is a lot of entertainment jammed into those 7 episodes 0 which have been transferred to Blu-ray on 3 discs – presented in 1080p, widescreen format. The audio is an English 5.1 Dolby Digital TruHD track, and there are also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
These episodes look so amazing in HD. Now, I enjoy streaming content, but when you want the best picture, you can’t really replicate the quality you find on a Blu-ray or a 4K disc. 1923 really looks the best on Blu-ray. This is where Blu-ray blows streaming out of the water. I, obviously, enjoyed the season episodes and, of course, that is a major reason to buy this Blu-ray, but the bonus featurettes are so much fun – these are what take a season release from good to great.
