‘WWE: Saturday Night’s Main Event’ Review (Jul 12th 2025)

by Phil Wheat

Guess who’s back, back again… It’s Saturday Night’s Main Event! Yes, the classic WWE brand returns for a much-anticipated show, and the fourth such “special” since the brand’s return last December – this time going head-to-head with AEW’s All In PPV! Let’s get straight into it and see what went down on this “special” show…

Match #1: Randy Orton def. Drew McIntyre

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Backed by four-time Grammy-nominated artist Jelly Roll, Randy Orton emerged to go to war with Drew McIntyre, who was flanked by Logan Paul. In the height of the action, Jelly Roll pushed an interfering Paul to the ringside floor. The distraction gave The Viper enough time to regroup and hit the RKO on The Scottish Psychopath for the win. When Paul sucker punched Orton immediately after the bell, Jelly Roll got involved, blocking The Maverick’s punch before knocking his adversary out of the ring with blow of his own. He didn’t see McIntyre, however, who blasted the singer with a brutal Claymore Kick.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #2: Solo Sikoa def. Jimmy Uso

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

When Jimmy Uso got into it with the disruptive MFTs, it opened the door for United States Champion Solo Sikoa to grab his older brother through the ropes and drag him in for the quick three-count to successfully defend his title. As Sikoa, Talla Tonga, JC Mateo and Tonga Loa treated Jimmy to a post-match attack, though, Jacob Fatu emerged to clean house with every MFT in sight.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #3: LA Knight def. Seth Rollins

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In the height of Seth Rollins’ explosive showdown against LA Knight, The Visionary propelled himself off the ropes and when he hit the canvas, his knee suddenly buckled. Standing up after trying to regroup in the corner, the injured Rollins fell victim to the BFT to give The Megastar the win.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #4: Gunther def. Goldberg

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

When Goldberg accidently Speared referee Charles Robinson in the night’s main event, Gunther removed Goldberg’s knee brace and set out to destroy his opponent. When he shoved Goldberg’s son Gage outside the ring, the young man jumped the barricade to attempt to engage the titleholder. This cost Gunther valuable time and the second he climbed back into the ring, Goldberg hit The Ring General with a Spear, then followed up with the Jackhammer. This took its toll on the decorated challenger, though, and provided Gunther enough time to lock in the Sleeper to hand Goldberg a loss in the final match of his career.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2.5/5

This week’s WWE Saturday Night Main Event struggled to find its footing despite some major names on the card. Randy Orton vs. Drew McIntyre opened with promise but felt like it never kicked into top gear. Solo Sikoa retaining the U.S. Title against Jimmy Uso had emotional weight but lacked real drama. The night was further derailed by Seth Rollins suffering a mid-match injury, which cast a shadow over everything that followed. Goldberg’s final match against Gunther should have been a true spectacle, but the rushed pacing and flat crowd reaction made it fall short. Overall, a disappointing and disjointed show.
